  • A capital strategy designed to support the
    Learning and Skills Councils priorities
  • Priority 1 Creating Demand for Learning and
    Skills
  • Priority 2 Transforming the FE system to meet
    demand
  • Priority 3 Delivering better skills, better job,
    better lives.

  • Level of Investment Learning and Skills Council
  • Over the three-year period to 2010-11 over 2.3
    billion to be invested in capital projects
  • Promoting between 4 billion and 5 billion of
    development by colleges, school and other
    providers.
  • Over 1 billion in the South East to build and
    rebuild colleges
  • And
  • This includes supporting the development of
    sports facilities in colleges, schools and other
    providers (not the whole 1 billion!!)

  • The role of sport in colleges
  • The provision of quality sports facilities for
    the delivery of 16-19 educational programmes and
    for the 19
  • The provision of quality sports facilities for
    student use (enrichment) as part of the 16
    physical activity agenda (linked to FESCos) for
    recreational use, clubs and competition
  • For other external activity, eg community use,
    use by sports clubs (including NGBs)
  • The Learning and Skills Councils priorities are
    1 and 2 but they are encouraging colleges to work
    with other local partners on 3.

  • The role of SkillsActive/Sport England in
    supporting this agenda
  • What will the curriculum look like for sport and
    leisure, how will this support local employment
    opportunities and other progression?
  • Could students access other local facilities for
    recreational use and college competition?
  • Could a partnership be developed with the local
    authority, HE, clubs, CSP, NGBs and other
    providers to establish the best mix of sports
    facilities to compliment existing local
    provision?
  • Could other investment support the community/club
    activities element of the facilities provision?
  • Could the LSC investment in sport be housed on
    existing local sports facilities?
