Title: Business Process Management modelling at Volvo
1Business Process Management (modelling?) at Volvo
2Volvo AB
Background
3Statements on maturity, December 2004
- The level of Maturity is varying within the Volvo
Group for the moment, But, the general feeling is
that interest for process management is
increasing rapidly - The challenge is to enhance maturity, so that the
understanding for Process management attain
approximately the same level within the Volvo
Group. There is a need to distinguish between
Core Business Process Management and Support
Business Process Management and to understand
which areas are Leaders and which are Followers,
Reaching this level will provide a basis for
definition of how commonality should be defined
as well as at what level commonality should be
required - A majority feel that Process Management should be
a Top-Down initiative, but for the moment there
are more examples of Bottom-Up implementation
rather than the opposite

10Process driven SAP management
- The challenge
- The approach
- Creation of templates for communication and
configuration - Creating project copies of templates
- Synchronizing communication and configuration
- Moving between configuration view and
communication view - Governance of solution
11What challenge do we face?
Challenge
Common Communication Platform
12What to do?
Approach
- Create one version of the truth the Master
Finance template configuration of SAP - Use the possibility to synchronize contents from
SAP into ARIS - Adjust in ARIS the reference content to Volvos
situation and add non-SAP information relevant
for Volvo - Using SolMan, transfer project back into SAP
- Publish template project from ARIS
- Based on template project, roll out Volvo company
specific projects, allowing only small amount of
changes based on country and local requirements
13Aristokit Owerview
Approach
- Defined and communicated Master Finance solution.
- Common set up and common ways of working.
- Enables improved accounting and reporting quality
- Faster and less costly Roll out project
- Decreased SU/MA cost per user

Templates
Volvo Process
- The Business Process Architecture has a certain
hierarchy. - In that way the different target groups can get
their information on the level that they are
interested in. - Management for example is more interested in the
high level process chains, while end users are
more interested in the information on detailed
process level like work instructions, templates,
checklists and forms.

20Synchronization Solution Manager ? ARIS (v. 7.02)
Sync
- Importing transactions allocated to structure
items into a function allocation diagram (FAD) - Importing documentation allocated to structure
items into FAD - Importing organizational units into FAD
- Importing master data into FAD
- ARIS version 7.1, allows for additional
information to be synchronized - End user roles

24Standard set-up is used
Governance
- Changes in core template is controlled by Master
Finance design board - Reducing company adaptations of Master Finance
processes and implemented accounting model
controls - Roll out time duration and cost
- Support Maintenance costs
- Upgrade complexity
- Comparability and transparency between companies
and between BA/BU. - Learning and start-up time for employees

26Summary
Summary
Communication and Design
Design in ARIS and publication on the intranet
emphasize a Business driven understanding
propelled with documentation. With the
connection between ARIS and Solution Manager we
have been able to retreive and use SAP Standard
content when designing Master Finance
Training
Possible to jump from published models into a
SAP training environment. Learning maps per
Business Scenario for existing companies and new
Roll outs available
Methodology
The Implementation Road map and entire
methodology is based on the Process driven design
and synchronization with Solution Manager, stored
in one place. This limit number of supporting
systems and duplications of templates. Test
scenarios based on Learning maps and designed
solution secure that the delivered solution is
tested
Standardize and Re-use
Having the core model in ARIS as template and
synchronizing this in SolMan template project
lead times will be substantially improved and all
material will be re-usable for next
implementation
