Services BIA-DOT provides

• BIA DOT provides Road Maintenance services for
  BIA system of roadways on the Nation.
• BIA DOT carries out the IRR program for Navajo
  Nation (road and bridge construction program).

• BIA DOTs Road Maintenance policy is to
  preserve, repair, and restore its system of
  roadways.
• This policy does not allow for improvements.

WNA Division of TransportationProgram Funds

• The Road and Bridge construction program is
  funded by the Federal Transportation Bill under
  the Indian Reservation Roads (IRR) program. In
  recent years, this fund has amounted to
  approximately 45 million annually for the Navajo
  Nation.

Recommendation for True Collaboration

• Nation needs to become actively involved and
  assist with key Transportation issues Issues
  like BIA Road Maintenance short falls, successful
  implementation of the Fuel Excise Tax program,
  establish Borrow Pits, establish Gravel Pits,
  establish partnerships with all Counties, etc.
