When using a computer there isnt any excuse for
spelling errors. However, if you look closely,
you might find a misspelled word in this list of
animals

Spell check is launched from the Tools menu
To run spell check go to the Tools menu and
choose Spelling. Checking will begin from the
selected cell and will bring up a dialog box if
it finds a misspelled word

Verify it is the word you want
Select Change to correct the error
Generally, the suggested word is the correct
word, but it doesnt hurt to check before
clicking the change button

somewhat complicated)
Averages
Formulas enable mathematical operations to be
performed within the spreadsheet. Totals,
percentages, averages, and grade calculations are
just a few of the operations available.

Cell F3 is selected
The formula is in the formula bar while the total
is in Cell F3
Formulas start with the symbol. Typing
(B3C3D3E3) into the cell F3 results in the
total points for Wolfgang. Another way to do this
is to use the sum function sum(B3E3)

The formula is displayed in the formula bar
Typing F3/F2 into Cell G3 and formatting the
cell to be a percentage with 0 decimal places)
calculates Wolfgangs percentage.

Notice the dollar signs in the formula
They force the divisor to always be Cell F2
F3/F2 The dollar signs in the formula mandate
that the divisor always be taken from column F
and row 2 which is the location of the total
possible points.

the formula bar
AVERAGE(B3B22) is the formula used in Cell B23
to calculate the average points scored by the
class on the first spelling assignment.

Many other formulas are available and can be
found by going to the Insert Menu and choosing
Function

Insert Menu to Comment
Select a cell
Comments can be associated with any cell. To
insert a comment select the cell and go to the
Insert Menu and choose Comment. A box will appear
into which you type the message.

Notice the red triangle in the upper right corner
and with the mouse over the cell the comment pops
up
A little red triangle in the upper right corner
of a cell indicates there is a comment. Placing
the mouse pointer over the cell reveals the
comment.

Format Menu to Cells
Choose the patterns tab
Select cell or range of cells to shade
Cells can be shaded. Select the cell or range you
wish to shade. Go to the Format Menu to Cells. A
dialog box will pop up. Choose the Patterns tab
and select a color.

Configure the borders as you want them
Select the range of cells
Borders can be added to outline cells. Select the
cell or range of cells. Go to the Format Menu and
choose Cells. A dialog box will pop up. Choose
the Border Tab and select the borders you want.

Uncheck the Gridlines checkbox
The light gray gridlines can be turned off by
going to the Tools menu and selecting Options.
Click the View Tab. Uncheck the gridlines
checkbox.
