  • Greater staff and public awareness of HCAI
  • Strengthen infection management team

  • Six month pilot of Polymerase Chain Reaction
    (PCR) test for MRSA
  • Launch of Ban the Bugs Campaign
  • Mandatory infection prevention training for staff
  • Hand Hygiene Champions and audits
  • MRSA counter
  • New uniform policy - Bare Below the Elbow

  • Appointment of new Director of Infection
    Prevention and Control (DIPC)
  • Expansion of Infection Prevention team
  • Improved infection management programme
  • Root Cause Analysis for all MRSA bacteraemia
  • Reduce and rationalise the use of antibiotics

Introduction of PCR
  • Rapid diagnostic test based on MRSA DNA
  • Six month pilot (March to September 2008) funded
    through the Hospitals Charitable Funds
  • Screening of all emergency patients admitted
    through AE, Critical Care, Clinical Decisions
    Unit
  • 7 days a week 8am-midnight
