6Strategy for NSFs RFP 06-505 Cyberinfrastructur
e for Environmental Observatories RFP
Synopsis There are a number of questions about
how to best construct such a cyberinfrastructure.
To help answer these questions and to promote
planning for Cyberinfrastructure for
Environmental Observatories (CEO), this
solicitation requests proposals for the
development of practical environmental
cyberinfrastructure prototypes along with a
demonstration of their capability to answer
significant environmental research questions.
Proposals should be for projects that pursue an
end-to-end approach to an information
infrastructure prototype. Proposals should
identify the types of data involved and the ways
in which users might wish to use such data. The
proposed projects should include the careful
exploration of use cases followed by deployment
of a prototype that implements these use cases.
Estimated Number of Awards 4 Anticipated
Funding Amount 8,500,000 Full Proposal Target
Date(s) January 25, 2006 Key Questions - The
project team - What can we do better than the
competition (there are already 18 HOs
established) - Partnership (discussion on the
subject on Nov 17-18 CLEANER Workshop please
attend)
7UI-UM CLEANER
Workshop II November 17-18 IMU

Digital Watershed for the Clear Creek
Eco-Hydrological Observatory
- Digital watershed (DW) functions
- extracts eco-hydrological observations from
ground-based measurements and remote-sensed data - - performs data quality control
- - renders the information in a relational
database - aggregates information through the information
layers - prepares the data needed for fusion of
observations and models - retrieves modeling results for validation,
scientific research, and cyber-management
9CCDW
Pilot Eco-Hydrological Observatory for the
Clear Creek Testbed, IA
Sample DW Application 1 Extraction, processing,
and visualization of stream gage data from USGS
repository (waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/rt)
10CCDW
Pilot Eco-Hydrological Observatory for the Clear
Creek Testbed, IA
Sample DW Application 2 Extraction, processing,
and visualization of rainfall estimates using
NOAA-NCDC data (ncdc.noaa.cpv/nexradinv)
