Title: SI Units

1
Chapter 2-2
2
SI Units
  • SI stands for International System of measurement
  • We know it as the metric system.
  • SI Units for Length is the meter
  • Volume is cubic meter.
  • Mass kilogram
  • Temperature degrees Kelvin
  • Time - seconds

3
Mass vs. weight
  • Mass of an object measures the amount of matter
    in an object.
  • Weight the downward pull of gravity on an
    object.
  • Mass and weight are not the same thing.
  • Weight changes when gravity changes.

4
Boiling and Freezing Points
  • Celsius boiling is 100 degrees, freezing 0
    degrees
  • Kelvin boiling is 373 degrees, freezing is -273
    degrees
  • Absolute Zero - 0 degrees Kelvin, -273 degrees
    Celsius.

5
Chapter 2-3
  • Communicating Data
  • Scientific Illustrations
  • Photographs can show an object exactly as it is.
  • Drawings a sketch that shows what an object
looks like or helps model it.

6
Tables and Graphs
  • Table displays information in rows and columns
so that it is easier to read and understand.
  • Graph is used to collect, organize, and
summarize data in a visual way.

7
Types of Graphs
  • Line, Bar, and Circle.
  • They are the same because they all visually
represent data that have been collected.
  • They are different because each represents
    different kinds of data.

8
Types of Graphs continued
  • Line Graph is used to show the relationship
between two variables. Shows changes of data
    over periods of time.
  • Bar Graph uses bars to show the relationship
    between variables. Compares Data.
  • Circle Graph shows the parts of a whole.

9
Misleading Graphs
  • Misleading graphs sometimes do not start with a
zero, sometimes the graph is not broken when it
is needed, intervals go in random orders not in a
pattern, spaces between lines are not equal, and
the sizes of bars are not the same.
