Mentor PADS
  • Todays Lab Objectives 1) Learn how to create
    the CAM files for a layout
  • Computer Aided Manufacturing - There are 3
    types of files that need to be created for a
    PCB 1) Gerbers 2) Drill Files 3) Drawings
    (Combined Fab/Drill)- today we will walk
    through the tutorial on the course website to
    create the CAM files.- it is good to check your
    Gerbers in a separate tool (i.e., PentaLogix) in
    order to independently verify that your data
    is correct.NOTE HW10 is to create a Combined
    Fab/Drill drawing.

  • Creating Gerber Files - In Mentor PADS,
    perform File - CAM- in the dialog that
    appears, we now setup which CAM files will be
    produces.- first, setup the CAM directory. -
    create a directory in your project directory
    called "CAM" (or HW10_CAM)- how we need to
    define the following GERBER outputs top.pho
    bottom.pho top_silk.pho top_mask.pho
    bottom_silk.pho bottom_mask.pho

  • Drill Files - In the CAM window, setup the
    Numerically Controlled Drill output files-
    click on the "Options" button to verify the drill
    sizes in your design are correct.
  • Combined Fab/Drill Drawing - In the CAM window,
    setup the Drill Drawing output (to PDF)- this
    will output the contents of the Drill Drawing
    layer.- you should add - sheet border -
    board dimensions - stackup table - notes-
    the CAM output will automatically generate the
    Drill Table (although you need to enter the XY
    coordinates for where it will go).
