  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable (do-able)
  • Results Oriented
  • Time Bound
  • This works for Accelerated Reader or any other
    goal you wish to set!

SMART goals are for everything
  • Forrest Gump said, If you dont know where you
    are going, you will probably not wind up there.
  • Make a plan for whatever you want to achieve and
    STICK to it!

SPECIFIC
  • Keep your overall average in the 90 or higher
    range.
  • Determine how many points you want to earn
  • Read books at your ZPD level (Zone of Proximal
    Development)
  • You will take a STAR test to find the level where
    you will be most successful

SPECIFIC
  • Plan how much daily reading you have time to do
    and then do it!
  • Figure out when you will read
  • on the bus
  • after school
  • as part of homework
  • before you go to sleep

  • What types of books do you plan to read? chapter
    books, fiction books, nonfiction books, a series
    of books
  • Read from a wide variety of books

  • Are you keeping your average in the target range?
  • Are you making progress toward your point goal?
  • Are you reading a variety of books?

  • Can you reach your goal?
  • Are you spending enough time reading to meet your
    goal?
  • Are you monitoring your progress?

  • Those who read, succeed
  • Earn the rank you want to achieve
  • Become a better reader
