    recruitment and retention of people in care.

What is stigma and where did it get its origin?
  • mark of shame or discredit
  • -People of color, IV drug users or immigrants
  • preconceived judgment of members of a certain
    race, ethnicity, gender, religion, or group
  • -Gay men in New York City and Los Angeles in the
    early 80 known as (GRID) gay related immune
    deficiency later known to us as AIDS

Stigmas as related to HIV/AIDS Ranks (Guilty by
association)
  • Anyone infected with HIV/AIDS
  • Care giver of people living with AIDS.
  • Homosexuals/Lesbians
  • IV drug users

Rural stigma level of care Scale
  • PLWA that contracted the disease through blood
    transfusion deserve the best care
  • PLWA that were infected unknowingly deserve the
    better care
  • PLWA that were infected knowingly through sexual
    contact deserve nothing

  • Fear continue to be the leading cause of none
    treatment
  • Shame Destroy the family name
  • Health Insurance Low socio- economic (No
    Insurance)
  • Income Little or no monies for (Cost of living)
