Hypothesis

• Socially acceptable sexual behaviour is
  different for men than it is for women in our
  society. Although womens true sexual behaviours
  are proven to be much like a males, women still
  feel pressured to meet social expectations of
  their behaviour.

Survey

• Population sample 160 male and female students
  age 14 19 at Cawthra Park Secondary School
• Independent Variables locations, number of
  students, and the questions we asked
• Dependent Variables The answers to the
  questions asked on the survey

Results - Survey

• We decided to split our findings up between the
  results derived from the males and results from
  the females and our findings were rather
  interesting
• Some of the most interesting results we found

Guys

• When asked
• Do you think that it is inappropriate to kiss at
  school?
• 24 said yes it is inappropriate, 76 said no its
  not inappropriate
• How do you think a girl should act?
• 49 said However she wants to, 19 said depends
  on where and when, 10 said no different than a
  guy, 5 said dignified, 5 said be respectful, 5
  said be Promiscuous and 7 really dont care!
• Do you accept homosexuality?
• 73 said yes, 17 said no and 4 said they are in
  between
• Do you think that homosexuality is a means to get
  attention?
• 26 said no they dont think it is to attract
  attention, and 74 said yes, it is for attention

Girls

• When asked
• Do you think that it is inappropriate to kiss at
  school?
• 27 said yes it is inappropriate, 70 said no its
  not and 3 says they are in between
• How do you think a girl should act?
• 45 said however they want, 37 said respectful,
  10 said something along the lines of cute and
  nice,5 said no different than a guy would act,
  3 other.
• Do you accept homosexuality?
• 82 said Yes, 8 said no.
• Do you think that homosexuality is a means to get
  attention?
• 59 said it wasnt for attention and 41 said
  that yes it was to attract attention

Segue to further understanding

• When the results were tallied from the survey,
  it was found that a large majority believed that
  people engaged in homosexual activities to gain
  attention. This lead to the exploration of the
  acceptability of homosexuality in our society
  today. Since 73 of our schools population
  accepted homosexuality, we wanted to discover if
  other age groups were as accepting.

Our Experiment

• To discover whether there was a difference in the
  acceptance of homosexuality among different age
  groups, we decided to conduct an experiment. A
  second hypothesis was developed.
• Teens are more accepting of homosexuality because
  they have been brought up in a more tolerable
  society that encourages personal freedom,
  therefore there is a harsher reaction to
  homosexual couples by middle aged people and
  seniors.

The Details

• Population Sample assortment of ages 14- 70
• Independent Variable- the amount of physical
  contact between the homosexual couples, and the
  extent of their outward discussion and openness
  about their relationship
• Dependant Variable- the reactions of the public,
  to what extent they find the behaviour
  acceptable/unacceptable. Verbal response or body
  language received after the initial behaviour

Why did we receive these Results??

• When the question of appropriate school attire
  was asked, the guys responded more readily yes
  because they enjoy seeing girls in more revealing
  clothing
• Guys were less accepting of homosexual behaviour
  because they felt threatened
• The overwhelming answers for how a girl should
  act in public reflects the different views people
  have regarding social norms, reflecting the
  different morals in society
• In the experiment, hardly anyone reacted to the
  straight couple, while the gay and lesbian
  couples received more attention. The lesbian
  couple having attracted the most, because it is
  less common.
