What Is The Test Exactly?

• Purpose To establish minimal academic reading
  competency
• General Short Passages on topics in science,
  literature, geography, et.
• Usually about ten passages

What is Required to Pass?

• Answer approximately 70 of questions correctly
• This gives you a scaled score of 61

Any Basic Tips?

• Answer all the questions
• No penalty for guessing (every one blank is wrong

Any Tactical Tips?

• Overview each section before answering the
  questions
• Read quickly but carefully and think about
  answers (most questions are inferential)
• Dont obsess about answers and dont fall into
  the good student trap.
• For vocabulary, answer according to how the word
  is used in the passage. (not always its
  dictionary meaning.) RUN
• Perhaps, while thinking about context, re-read
  the sentence, perhaps both the sentence above and
  below.
• Time Allocation
• 6 minutes per passage

Relax and Release

• The object is to pass, not answer every question.
• Remember that if you answered all of the
  questions after reading the passages quickly, but
  carefully, and remembered to keep the passages
  main purposes in mind and to address the
  vocabulary questions in context, that you have
  probably passed.
