Title: Uses of Fluids

1
Uses of Fluids
2
Archimede's Principle
The buoyant force on the solid object is equal
to the weight of the water displaced.
3
Examples of Archimedes Principle
Archimedes explains why steel ships float
4
Pascal's Principle
Pressure applied to an enclosed fluid is
transmitted undiminished to every part of the
fluid, as well as to the walls of the container.
5
Examples of Pascals Principle
6
Pascal's Principle
"All men seek happiness. This is without
exception. Whatever different means they employ,
they all tend to this end. The cause of some
going to war, and of others avoiding it, is the
same desire in both, attended with different
views. This is the motive of every action of
every man, even of those who hang
themselves."Blaise Pascal (1623 - 1662)
7
Bernoulli's Principle
  • As the speed of a moving fluid increases, the
    pressure within the fluid decreases.

8
Behavior Of An Ideal Fluid Passing Through A Pipe
  • The fluid can be either a liquid or a gas. For
Bernoulli's Principle to apply, the fluid is
    assumed to have these qualities
  • Fluid flows smoothly
  • Fluid flows without any swirls (which are called
    "eddies")
  • Fluid flows everywhere through the pipe (which
means there is no "flow separation")
  • Fluid has the same density everywhere (it is
    "incompressible" like water)
