We can stay in town or, if there isnt the course
we want, we must go to another city Lisbon,
Portalegre, Évora, Tomar, Abrantes... Podemos
ficar na cidade, mas, senão há o curso que
queremos, temos de ir para outras cidades

If we stay in Ponte de Sor, we only have one high
school to go, and that doesnt give us many
choices. Se nós ficarmos em Ponte de Sor apenas
temos uma Escola para ir, o que não nos dá
qualquer escolha.

At Ponte de Sor

• At Ponte de Sor theres only Hight School, called
  Escola do 3ª Ciclo e Secundário where we can
  study during 3 years and prepare ourselves to go
  to the University.
• Em Ponte de Sor só há a Escola do 3º Ciclo e
  Secundária onde nós podemos estudar durante 3
  anos e nos preparar para a Universidade.

When the students dont want to go on studying,
they must look for a job, but it isnt easy to
find one. So, many times they must work on
building houses or some other hard works Quando
os estudantes não querem continuar a estudar,
procuram um emprego, mas não é fácil encontrar
um. Por isso, muitas das vezes têm de trabalhar
na Construção ou noutros trabalhos pesados.

INDUSTRY
Ponte de Sor is well known as the Capital of the
Cork and that is becoming the most important
industry in town. Yet there are some small new
industries and lots of young people leave school
and try to get a job there. Ponte de Sor é bem
conhecida pela Capital da Cortiça e esta é a
indústria principal da cidade. Mas há outras
novas indústrias mais pequenas e muitos dos
jovens deixam a escola e tentam arranjar um
emprego.

AMORINS

• This is one of the most important industries in
  the country and it developes the treatment of the
  cork. When we travel all over Portugal we can see
  big lorries carrying cork to these warehouses.
• Esta é uma das indústrias mais importantes do
  país e nela se faz o tratamento da cortiça.
  Quando viajamos por Portugal podemos ver os
  camiões carregados de cortiça para estes armazéns.

• In this factory parts for planes are built,
  although they have been set up out of the country
  for legality reasons.
• Nesta fábrica são construídas as partes de
  aviões, embora eles tenham sido montados fora do
  país por falta de legislação.

SUBERCENTRO

• Like AMORINS, this industry treats cork and
  produces some works like the corks for the botles
  we use at home. Most of the employees finished
  school before time or started working after they
  finished 9th grade.
• Tal como os AMORINS, esta indústria trata a
  cortiça e produz alguns trabalhos como as rolhas
  para as garrafas que usamos em casa. A maior
  parte dos empregados acabaram os estudos antes do
  tempo ou começaram a trabalhar quando terminaram
  o 9º ano

• This is one of the first industries in Ponte de
  Sor and its main activity consists on car
  components. Until some years ago, all the
  families had, at least, one person working there.
• Esta é uma das primeiras indústrias de Ponte de
  Sor e a sua actividade principal baseia-se na
  construção de componentes de carro. Até há alguns
  anos, todas as famílias tinham, pelo menos, um
  elemento a trabalhar na empresa.

At school there are different activities that we
can do sports, parties, clubs , gymnastic... Na
escola há várias actividades em que podemos
participar desporto, festas, clubes, ginástica

• Some times we make expositions with the work done
  at the clubs, for example, at the Sciences Club.
• Às vezes fazemos exposições com os trabalhos
  feitos nos clube, como por exemplo, no Clube de
  Ciências.
• There are some spaces where we can spend some
  free time between classes.Here we can play table
  tennis.
• Há alguns espaços onde nós podemos passar algum
  tempo livre entre as aulas. Aqui, nós podemos
  jogas pingue-pongue.

• The room with the computers is one of our
  favourites. Here, we can play, we can do some
  works for our classes or just make research in
  the net.
• A sala dos computadores é uma das nossas
  preferidas. Aqui, nós podemos jogar, fazer alguns
  trabalhos para as aulas ou, apenas fazer pesquisa
  na net.
• This is Mr Rafael, who was our teacher of english
  and now, also the coordinator of the
  computersroom.
• Este é o professor Rafael, que foi o nosso
  professor de Inglês e agora é o coordenador da
  sala de computadores.

Outdoors

• Lots of young people, after school, go by the
  river and stay there with their friends.
• We can play tennis, sail in the river, stay at
  the café or simply sit in the grass.
• Muitos dos jovens, depois da escola,vão para a
  zona ribeirinha e estão com os seus amigos.
• Podemos jogar ténis, andar de gaivota, estar no
  café ou, muito simplesmente, sentar na relva..

Outdoors
We love going to the swimming pool.
On weekends we may go to the cinema.
On weekends we go dancing at the only disco we
have Primo Xico
Some of us play at the fire brigades band.

• At school or at the pavillion, we can practice
  some sports like athletics, basketball, BTT,
  football...
• Na escola ou no pavilhão podemos praticar alguns
  desportos como o atletismo, basquetebol, BTT,
  futebol...

Just a joke do you know what we call this animal
in our region? A very restless animal. !
The great escape!
Of course theres still lots of things to talk
about but we must put an end to this work. Those
kids worked a lot and its time for them to do
some of their hobbies. We hope you learned
something about the way we live at Ponte de
Sor. You must come and visit us!
