weapons into Cuba. - Communism vs. Democracy
5WHY did it start?
- The conversion to Communism in Cuba.
- Anti-American feelings in Cuba rise.
- To prevent the US from ruling West Berlin.
6Why did Cubans become Communists?
- Fidel Castro
- -Revolutionary Leader who was anti-America.
- -Believed America took over economic/political

Castro. Fails.
7Whats up with West Berlin?
- America promised to defend West Berlin in
Germany, ran by a democratic government. - Khrushchev threatened to take over West Berlin.
- Weapons were most likely set in Cuba to prevent
America from going to war in defense of West
Berlin. - If no action is taken, it would increase danger
of war over Berlin.
8Why the missile installation must be stopped
- Nuclear Weapons set in Cuba could attack almost
all of the major cities in America. (LA, Chicago,
New York.) - If he stops the Soviets, it could possibly start
a world wide Nuclear War, which will result with
millions of deaths. - If he turns the other way, it would result with
war as well.
9What Kennedy did
- Announce a blockade upon Cuba!
- - To isolate a nation from any outside business.
Boycott? - - U.S. Navy inspects ships that come in and out
of Cuba to check for any weapons. - Threatened them
- - If the Soviet Union does not withdraw their
nuclear weapons from Cuba, there would be a full
retaliatory response upon the Soviet Union
10How did it Resolve?
- Khrushchev suggests a negotiation. If USSR pulls
out their weapons, then US must promise not to
attack Cuba. And they must withdraw THEIR weapons
from Turkey as well. - Kennedy agrees with both terms, but brother
doesnt agree with Turkey. - Khrushchev decides to remove missiles because of
the danger of the Nuclear War, and realizes that
Kennedy is serious about attacking Cuba. - Ends up with missiles being withdrawn along with
a noninvasion pledge.
11What Aspect of the Cold war was it?
- The Cuban Missile Crisis was between USSR and
America - Communist Ideas vs. Democratic Ideas
