• Contraception is the means that used to avoid
  contact between sperms and eggs during sexual
  intercourse, to control birth.

• a reversible way of birth control
• an oral prescription drug that must be
  prescribed by a healthcare professional
• two kinds of contraceptive pills
• Combined pills
• combines two types of hormones
• releases these hormones into the blood stream
  that suppress ovulation
• Mini-pills
• thickens the lining of the uterus to prevent the
  sperms from reaching the uterus for fertilization

• may help in reducing anemia
• Also reduce menstrual pain premenstrual
  syndrome
• Decreases the risk of endometrial cancer, breast
  lumps and cysts, ovarian cancer and ovarian cysts
• Can reduce acne facial hair

• Side Effects
• cigarette smoking increase the risk of serious
  cardiovascular side effects
• Women taking the pills have more than twice the
  risk of ischemic stroke than those who does not
  take them
• Headaches, stomach pains, nausea, obesity,
  depression, cyclic mastalgia,etc.

Ageing problem in HK

• due to birth control, natural increase (i.e.
  birth rate - death rate) would account ONLY for
  about 7 of growth in the population, the other
  source is migration
• in 2001, 16 of the population were aged under
  15. This is projected to decrease to 12 in 2031
• the proportion of those aged 65 and over is
  projected to rise markedly, from 11 in 2001 to
  24 in 2031

Ageing problem in HK

• median age is also increasing, from 37 of the
  population in 2001 to 46 in 2031
• Ageing problems would lead to various social ,
  medical economic problems
• heavy burden of social welfare
• the decrease in labour force, affecting the
  economy
• There would also be less human as predators in
  the environment
• leads to changes in the whole life cycle
