China Scholarship Council (CSC)
  • CSC is a non-profit institution with legal person
    status affiliated with the Ministry of Education.
  • China Scholarship Council is financed mainly by
    the state's special appropriations for
    scholarship programmes.
  • The tasks of the CSC are to use legal and
    economic means to manage the affairs of the
    Chinese citizens studying abroad and of the
    foreigners studying in China
  • CSC consists of a committee and a secretariat.
    The secretariat is in charge of implementing the
    work principles and plans formulated by the
    Committee of management regulations

Eligibility
  • Hold a unconditional offer from QUT to study a
    postgraduate research degree (PhD priority) at
    QUT commencing in Semester 2 of each year
  • Have an approved full tuition fee waiver from QUT
    for the degree
  • Be a citizen and permanent resident of PR China
    at the time of application
  • Not be currently working or studying in Australia
    at the time of application
  • Must agree to return to China at the end of the
    period of study
  • Satisfy the selection criteria set out by CSC by
    completing the CSC application form and the
    employer reference form. These are available
    online http//apply.csc.edu.cn/. (open 1-31
    March each year)

Application Process
  • Students use QUT FR application form. Students
    must meet the normal selection criteria for the
    postgraduate research program of QUT including
    academic performance and English language
    requirements. (IELTS 6.5 with no subtest below
    6)
  • In the 2007 scheme, the deadline for the
    applications to QUT is 16 November 2007
  • Offers are made by QUT before 21 December 2007
  • Applicants must post a copy of the application
    documents submitted to QUT and the signed copy of
    the CSC application form and employer reference
    form to CSC
  • In the 2007 scheme, the deadline for the
    applications to CSC is 31 March
  • 2008 for S2 intakes.
  • CSC decisions expected by late May 2008

  • Funding Model
  • For successful applicants, QUT will waive their
    full tuition fees and CSC will consider their
    application for a living allowance as prescribed
    from time to time by the Chinese Government
    (which includes Student Health Cover), a return
    airline to Australia by the most economical
    route, and visa application fees.
  • Up to 100 QUT tuition fee waivers are available
    to mid 2009
  • Up to three years CSC funding is possible

  • Supervision of candidates
  • QUT will provide the chief academic advisor
    (Principal Supervisor) for candidates
  • Wherever possible, co-supervision between QUT and
    the Chinese universities from which the
    candidates come will be encouraged
  • This is seen as a channel for the development for
    long-term research collaboration between QUT and
    Chinese universities, which both CSC and QUT
    embrace as long-term goals.
