SBE Policy QP-A-004
  • Orientation prior to beginning of first year
  • Mentor assigned for 3 years
  • Limited Preparations
  • No extra-curricular activities (unless requested
    in writing by the ILT)
  • Limited exceptional or difficult students
  • Minimal non-instructional duties

  • Individual Growth Plan each year
  • 4 observations including one from a peer each
    year
  • Summative observation (end of the year)
  • Three years ILT in a five year window (Licensure
    will determine new cycle depending on LEA request
    and policy)

What is required?
  • Three years of teaching experience
  • 6 months in one LEA to count as a year
  • Lateral entry ILTs must be within 6 semester
    hours of completing coursework at the BEGINNING
    OF THE SCHOOL YEAR in order to submit the interim
    requirements

Interim Requirements
  • Copies of the 4 observations (2 years)
  • Copy of the summatives (2 years)
  • Copy of the Individual Growth Plan
  • Evidence of Professional Development activities
  • Evidence of Mentor-ILT meetings

What will the review tell us?
  • Is professional development tied to IGP, INTASC
    standards and is it individualized?
  • Are mentors meeting regularly with ILT?
  • Are observations timely and is feedback given?
  • Is information on the FODAs reflected on the
    summative evaulations?
  • Are there trends by school or LEA? (are teachers
    consistently rated above standard yet student
    performance is low are IGPs written for the
    individual teacher or a group is professional
    development linked to the IGP or is it school-
    wide?

    years 2005-2006 and 2006-2007

  • LEA must verify that the candidate has reached a
    minimum level of competence as a beginning
    teacher and has demonstrated knowledge of the
    INTASC Standards
  • or

  • Principal must verify that the candidate has not
    reached the minimum level of competence for a
    beginning teacher based on INTASC Standards (in
    this case the Interim Requirements will not be
    accepted and will be resubmitted in year 3)
  • Candidate, Mentor, Principal, and ILT Coordinator
    signatures are all required.

What ILT-2s need to do
  • Collect copies of observations and summative
    evaluations
  • Collect copy of IGP (3 pages)
  • Attend meetings and workshops relating to IGP
    goals and INTASC standards
  • Collecting copies of the Mentor Log Sheet

Submitting Documentation
  • The documentation folder will be turned in to
    Dreisa Sherrill at the end of the school year
  • Each ILT will submit his/her folder on a
    scheduled day
  • Each folder will be checked before you leave
