What is a Prophet?

• Prophet someone who speaks by divine
  inspiration someone who is an interpreter of the
  will of God

Jonah

• Prophet in city of Nineveh. God commanded him to
  preach against evil actions occurring in city.
• Instead Jonah ran away from God and went aboard a
  ship.
• A huge storm came and the sailors threw Jonah
  overboard and he was swallowed by a fish (for
  three days and three nights.)
• After prayer and obedience, the fish spit Jonah
  out on dry ground and he went to preach in
  Nineveh, turning the people from their evil ways.

Daniel

• Daniel was a prophet in Babylon
• He was thrown into the lions den by King Darius
  for praying to the Lord during a time when
  praying to anyone besides the king was forbidden.
• However, because of his immense faith, not one
  wound was placed on Daniel because an angel of
  the Lord came down and shut the mouths of the
  lions so they would not hurt him.

Isaiah

• His name means The Lord saves.
• The Lord spoke through Isaiah proclaiming the
  coming of Christ and prophesying his life.
• Isaiah also prophesies about the future of many
  nations.
• He sings songs of praise to the Lord.
• Isaiah brings news of Judgment Day but also news
  of Hope.

Jacob

• His name later changes to Israel after he
  wrestles with God.
• Jacob is the second son of Isaac, brother to
  Esau.
• Jacob had a dream of a ladder (Jacobs ladder) on
  which Gods angels were ascending and descending
  on it. God speaks to Jacob in this dream telling
  him he will have many descendants and that all
  people on earth will be blessed through him.
• Jacob married Rachel and Leah. He would then
  have 12 sons (father of the 12 tribes of Israel.)

Joseph

• Son of Jacob and Rachel
• Jacobs favorite son and was presented with the
  coat of many colors
• Joseph had interpretive dreams sent by God
• His brothers later sold him to slave traders
  going to Egypt. Joseph later worked for the
  Pharaoh, interpreted his dreams by the power of
  the Lord, and was made 2nd in Command of Egypt.
• Joseph had immense faith and the Lord watched
  over him.

Moses

• Moses was raised in the Pharaohs house by the
  Pharaohs daughter.
• God talked to Moses from a burning bush, telling
  him that he would free the Israelites from
  slavery in Egypt.
• Moses does indeed free the Israelites from Egypt
  through the hand of God with the 10 plagues.
• He leads the Israelites through the desert to the
  Promised Land and receives the 10 Commandments
  from the Lord written on two stone tablets.

Noah

• Noah was the only righteous man left of his time.
• The Lord told him to build an ark big enough to
  hold 2 of every kind of animal.
• Noah, along with his family, took 2 of every kind
  of animal on the ark and the Lord made it rain
  for 40 days and 40 nights to wipe out all of
  mankind and his evilness.
• After the rain stopped, God sent a rainbow as a
  covenant with Noah to never again flood the
  entire world.

Abraham

• Father Abraham father of many nations.
• God granted Abraham a son, Isaac, when he was 100
  years old.
• Abraham was tested by God to kill his only son
  Isaac. Abraham was going to obey the Lord even
  if it meant killing his son. However, right
  before he was going to kill Isaac the Lord
  stopped him and blessed him. Abraham had
  tremendous faith .
