3Introduction
- Welcome to C.C. Wells Elementary School! We
look forward to having the opportunity to work
with you and your child. We hope you find this
handbook useful and refer to it often during the
year. The Kindergarten year is a very important
stepping stone for your child's future
educational success.
- Your enthusiasm and support of the program
will help your child get off to a good start.
With your involvement, your child's confidence
will grow and he or she will establish a positive
attitude towards school.
4Introduction
- A monthly calendar from your child's class
will inform you about class activities or news,
and upcoming events. During scheduled
conferences, you will get information about your
child's progress. Additionally, report cards
will be sent every nine weeks during the school
year.
- We look forward to a successful school year.

7Items Sent to School
- All money or notes sent to school must be
sealed in an envelope. Please label the envelope
with your child's name, teachers name, and
specifically what is enclosed. Example - Joe Blank,
- Mrs. Smith's class,
- Lunch money for the week
- 8.75
-
- Please send a separate check or correct
change for each event or activity. - Please encourage your child not to open or
play with the envelope on the way to school. We
suggest that all envelopes be placed in the
folder inside their backpack. This ensures safe
arrival! - Check your childs backpack each day, and review
notes and materials sent home. -
8Toys and Books
-
- Please do not let children bring cars,
trucks, dolls, or other toys to school unless a
note is sent home requesting them for a special
activity. Also, there is no need for combs,
brushes, purses, etc., to be brought to school. - Books to be shared with the other
children are welcome, but should be labeled with
the child's name. Every attempt will be made to
read books brought from home, provided they are
age appropriate for the class.
9Buses
- Please have your child ride the bus to and
from school beginning the first day. This is
very important in making the transition from home
to school life. If you find it necessary to
drive your child to school, please drop them off
at the school office. This is an important way
for children to gain independence and
self-confidence.
- Have your child wear his/her name tag the
first two weeks of school. With the help of
volunteers, we will put the children on the bus
in the afternoon for the first two weeks. When
you know your child's bus number, please help
him/her learn the number and how to recognize it.
10Buses
- If your child is to ride a different bus in
the afternoon, or will be picked up at school,
please notify the teacher in writing. Without a
note from the parent, children must be placed on
their regular bus. -
11Buses
- Instructional hours are 830 AM to 250 PM.
Your child should arrive at school no earlier
than 815 AM, and should be picked up no later
than 250 PM. If your child does not ride a
school bus, please notify the teacher as to who
will be picking up the child.
12Clothes for School
- Dress your child in comfortable shoes and
play clothes. Please do not send them in clothes
they "can't get dirty". It is almost impossible
not to get dirty during a kindergarten day.
Shorts, jeans, t-shirts, etc., are suggested
clothing. -
-
- Students go outside every day (weather
permitting), therefore, your child should dress
for outside play. For safety's sake, tennis
shoes are preferred. Sandals, smooth bottom
shoes, or flipflops" are not safe on the
blacktop or the playground equipment.
13Clothes for School
- Please help your child learn to button, zip,
unzip, and tie. These things should be taught as
soon as possible. Remember that coats, jackets,
and boots should be easy enough to be fastened by
the child. They should have large zippers or
buttons, and be free of obstructing materials
such as fur around the fastenings.
- Clearly label all removable clothing with
your child's name. Don't forget hats, mittens,
and scarves. -
- Also, please have your child wear tennis
shoes on their P.E. day. Ask your childs
teacher what day of the week they will go to P.E.
14Holidays and Birthdays
- Class Parties and treat days will be held at
the following times -
- Fall treat
- Winter party
- Spring treat
- End of the Year party
-
- The room mothers will coordinate
refreshments, favors, and games. -
-
- Students are not allowed to have individual
birthday parties in the classroom. Parents may
bring in a small treat (cookies, cupcakes, etc.)
per child to be shared at lunch time. Birthday
or other party invitations will not be passed out
at school.
15Special Projects
- In addition to our curriculum, cooking and
crafts are done in the classroom throughout the
year. Parents are asked to help contribute
ingredients and/or supplies. Your child will
bring home a note stating the supplies needed for
the next cooking or craft project. -
- Teachers try to give as much advance notice
as possible to allow a reply and time for you to
shop. If you cannot provide the requested
materials, please notify the teacher before the
scheduled activity. -
-
16Medications Allergies
- Please refer to the School Handbook for
specific policies regarding medicines to be given
at school. Please do not send items such as cough
drops or aspirin to school with your child. These
items will be taken from the child and turned
over to the school clinic. No medicine can be
administered unless the parent completes the
proper forms, available from the school.
17Medications Allergies
- As a result of the various cooking activities and
events at school where refreshments are served,
it is very important that you notify your childs
teacher of any food allergies your child may
have. Also, please note any allergies on your
childs medical data form.
18Rest Mats
- Please send a towel for your child. The towel
will be kept in your childs backpack. It should
be laundered weekly.
19Parent Volunteers
-
- Parents are needed to help the teachers in
many ways. Your child's teacher will have a
sign-up sheet available at Orientation.
Otherwise, send a note to school with your child
if you would like to help. -
-
-
- Each time you arrive at school as a
volunteer, please sign in at the Office. All
parents are requested to wear a name badge
whenever visiting the school. When visiting the
school as a volunteer, please do not bring
younger children.
20Parent Volunteers
- The school cannot be responsible for their
safety, and your attention will naturally be
scattered watching them. -
- Parent volunteers are needed to help with
the computer lab, field trips, language
experiences, cooking projects, classroom parties,
and other special activities.
- You can also help by cutting out projects at
home, making phone calls, and bringing in party
treats. - Special skills are not needed for most of
the volunteer jobs. Instructions will be
provided for certain areas or projects such as
the computer lab.
21Room Mothers
- Please let your child's teacher know if you
would like to be a room mother. We are allowed
two per classroom. A Parent Volunteer
Orientation for all volunteers and room mothers
will be scheduled soon. A notice will be sent
home to schedule this meeting.
