How to write a report?

  • In Part 2 of the exam, you may be asked to write
    a report which evaluates places, events,
    arrangements, etc. Read the exam question below
    and find the key words.
  • You have recently started work in a local travel
    company, and you had to visit a new tourist
    attraction (for example a museum, a nightclub or
    a park) in your area. Now you must write a report
    for your boss.
  • Write your report (120 180 words), describing
    the attraction, what it has to offer to tourists
    and commenting on its good and bad points.

  • A few things to think about
  • Who is going to read your report?
  • Which style of writing will you use for your
    reader?
  • Which of the following options could you write
    about? Which of the options are inappropriate and
    why?
  • A well known museum or a park
  • Your dog
  • A new beach club in your area
  • A world famous attraction in your area that draws
    huge crowds every year
  • The new underground transport system in your city
  • A new museum or a park in your city
  • A popular pub where people get drunk at the
    weekends
  • 4. What will your reader expect you to do?
  • Describe the attraction generally, highlight the
    aspects that would appeal to tourists and report
    on its positive and negative sides
  • Describe the attraction and say how it benefits
    local people
  • Describe the attraction and say why youre
    dissatisfied with the government.
  • Describe the good and the bad points of the
    attraction.
  • Describe your visit to the attraction in great
    detail and say why you liked it.

Brainstorm the topic
  • Choose a tourist attraction in your area and make
    a list of its facilities.
  • What makes it especially good for tourists?
  • What are the good points and the bad points of
    the attraction?

Think about vocabulary
  • Rewrite the following sentences to make them
    suitable for a formal report, using the phrases
    and the words from below.
  • e.g. I want to tell you if its good or not.
