Important Dates
Happy New Year! We are looking forward to a busy
second semester. We will be working very hard to
prepare each child to be successful in first
grade. You can help us by encouraging your child
to read and write on a daily basis. Please
encourage your child to do his/her own writing in
their Homework Journal.
January 14th, 15th, 16th Early Release at

What we are learning this month . . . Reading
using beginning reading strategies to read more
successfully and independently,
Fiction/Non-fiction, authors purpose, parts of a
non-fiction book, Writing writes for a variety
of purposes, makes stories and illustrations
match, evaluate own writing, write from left to
right and top to bottom Science
Winter/Penguins Math measurement,
addition/subtraction, creating sets, more/fewer,
combination of numbers Phonics word families,
making words
Skills to work on at home . . .
Using upper case letters at the beginning of the
sentence, correct spacing, punctuation Sounding
out words by saying them slowly Writing number
0-20 using correct formation Recognizing and
writing all Word Wall Words Tying shoes/zipping
zippers/buttoning jackets
Our weather is continually changing . . . Please
send a coat each day! We will go outside on cold
days!
It is the dream of every parent for each child to
be given the chance to fulfill his or her
potential. Its the goal of every teacher to
have the classroom of students who learn, are
challenged, and achieve.
