First Year in U.S. Exemption
  • ELL students who have attended US schools for 12
months or less (enrolled in a US school after
April 22, 2008) may be exempt from the PSAE
Reading (ACT Reading and WorkKeys Reading for
Information tests). Students who enrolled on or
before April 22, 2008 but have less than one year
of attendance due to temporarily leaving the
country may still be excused. This is a once in
    a lifetime exemption.
  • Must still take the mathematics and science

  • Inform eligible students of the exemption. They
must take the PSAE reading portions with a
    self-paced session using State-Allowed
    accommodations.
  • Forfeits reportable ACT score for

PSAE Pre-ID/ SIS File
  • February 20 Last day to verify all students are
included in Pre-ID file in SIS. Files are sent to
contractor for printing of bar code labels for
    Day 1 and Day 2.
  • Grade 11 students automatically populate the
Pre-ID file in SIS, based on Home School RCDTS
    code.
  • Some additional information must be added.
(e.g., enrolled on or before May 1, Testing
    School RCDTS code)
  • Pre-ID Bar Code Labels
  • Sent in non-secure shipments to Test Supervisors
  • Use label and make updates in SIS-updated
information will be captured when scanned
  • Verify that all information in SIS and Pre-ID
file is correct no later than Friday, May 8.

9
PSAE Pre-ID/ SIS File
  • Students Without Pre-ID Labels
  • For students who enroll after Pre-ID labels are
printed (Feb. 20), authorized school staff must
    grid
  • On Day 1 answer folder the State-Assigned
Student ID Number. (The student is to complete
    other demographic information.)
  • On Day 2 answer document the students legal
name, date of birth, gender, State-Assigned
Student ID number, and 15-digit Home School RCDTS
    Code.
  • Verify that the State-Assigned Student ID Number
on the Day 1 answer folder and all information
gridded on the Day 2 answer document by school
staff match what is in the SIS system exactly.
(e.g., if the students legal first name is SIS
is William make sure William and not Bill
is gridded on the Day 2 answer document)

10
PSAE Pre-ID/ SIS File
  • Students With Pre-ID Labels Who are No Longer
    Enrolled
  • For students who are no longer enrolled in your
school after Pre-ID labels are printed (February
20), simply do not use the label.
  • Make sure that the student is exited from the SIS
system. This will automatically remove the
    student from your Pre-ID file.
  • Contact the ISBE Help Desk for technical
    assistance217-558-3600 or help_at_isbe.net

11
RCDTS Code
  • ISBE identifies all entities by an unique
    Region-County-District-Type-School code
  • Last 4 digits (School Code) is on Pre-ID labels,
    NOT the CPS unit number
  • Example
  • CPS Central Office Code 15-016-2990-25-0000
    (RR-CCC-DDDD-TT-SSSS)
  • 15 is the region code

  • 2990 is the district code
  • 25 is the type code

PSAE and AYP
  • Code E (Absent) is the only reason for not
    testing that impacts AYP
  • Any irregularities still count for participation
  • ELL subgroup must meet participation and reading
and math standards (meets/exceeds) in PSAE or IAA
for a school to make AYP
  • Using ELL accommodations is not a factor
  • Different from the CPS Performance Policy, which
removes students taking the PSAE who are in PY
    0-5
