What is Induction?
  • SB 2042 (Induction) represents the first major
    credential reform effort in 35 years
  • Induction adds a demonstration requirement to the
    original BTSA model
  • Only approved pathway for public school teachers
    to Multiple or Single Subject Professional Clear
    Credential

How is Induction different from BTSA?
  • BTSA
  • Originally voluntary, now required, along with
    university coursework, for Ryan credential
    holders
  • Optional for Level 1 Education Specialists
  • Advisor and beginning teacher use a formative
    assessment system to support and document
    professional growth during first two years
  • Development and application of teaching standards

  • Adds to original BTSA model
  • Initiation into teaching profession guided by
    CSTP, state content standards, and Induction
    standards
  • Requires demonstration of competence in the six
    Induction Content Standards
  • Teachers no longer have a university option to
    earn clear credential

What are the Induction requirements?
  • Meet weekly with Advisor for two years
  • Complete the formative assessment process with
    Advisor
  • Participate in 18 hours of professional
    development each year
  • Submit a portfolio documenting competence in the
    six Induction Content Standards

What does an Advisor do?
  • Advisors are veteran teachers selected by their
    districts based on their classroom practice and
    ability to work with adult learners.
  • Advisors support, coach, observe lessons, model
    best practices, plan lessons, give feedback,
    listen, empathize, encourage, recommend, suggest,
    direct, sympathize, and advise.
  • Advisors maintain a strictly confidential
    relationship with their teachers.

What is the Peninsula BTSA Project (PBP)?
  • PBP is a consortium of 21 districts in San Mateo
    County
  • PBP serves approximately 500 beginning teachers
  • PBP also provides support for approximately 65
    Intern teachers through the Peninsula Intern
    Program
  • PBP provides support for approximately 50 new
    administrators through the PALS program
