Title: Group 6: Optical Heart Monitor Jump Drive

1
Group 6 Optical Heart Monitor / Jump Drive
  • Sponsor Calit2
  • Mentor Paul Blair, Ph.D.
  • Team Kari Nip, Matt Chandrangsu, Jeffrey Chi

Agenda
  • Project Background
  • Weekly Progress
  • Statement of Work
  • Gantt Chart
  • Summary
  • Plans for Next Week

3
Project Background
  • Currently there are many heart rate monitors in
use that enable a user to check up on his or her
own heart health, but there are not many
applications using heart rate monitors that allow
users to save their heart rate data to view later
for medical purposes. Many existing monitors are
also bulky and hard to use, and also sometimes
    unreliable.
  • The purpose of the Optical Heart Monitor project
is to develop a cheap, reliable, easy to use
heart monitor that not only gives real time data,
but is able to store the data to see changes over
    time.

Statement of Work
  • Project Features
  • Signal Collection
  • Improve upon previously designed optical heart
    rate collection circuitry.
  • Use designed circuitry to obtain analog signal of
    the users heart rate.
  • Analog to Digital Signal Conversion / Signal
    Processing and Filtering
  • Take analog signal of users heart rate and
manipulate using digital filters to obtain time
differences between heart beats from the optical
    sensor.
  • Interface to Existing Code
  • Implement code that calculates the heart rate
from the time differences between heart beats.
  • Enable heart rate data to be saved onto external
    flash memory.
  • Integrate code that allows the heart rate data to
be read from device just like a USB jump drive on
    a computer.
  • Integrate Components / Construct PCB

9
Statement of Work
  • Deliverables
  • Completed PCB
  • Software for integrating USB drive
  • Analog to digital conversion code
  • Documentation of work

10
Statement of Work
  • Resources Required
  • Bread board for development
  • Eagle program for schematic capture and layout
  • AVR programs for microcontroller code development
    and microcontroller programming.
  • Device elements microcontroller, pulse
    oximeter, resistors, capacitors, opamps, etc
