2In Petach-Tikva city we had 55 rise in accidents
compared to last year. It means 342 accidents
and 594 wounded from January to August 2002. Most
accidents happen at intersections. This is where
vehicles cross paths. Pedestrian walkers use
intersections, too.

4The most problematic street in Petach-Tikva is
Kaplan Street.
5Busy streets have more accidents. Questions lead

How busy are our streets?
How busy is Kaplan Street? Count how many cars go
by the busiest intersection during peak hours.
Are cars going too fast? Estimate speeds with
distance and time
Are different commercial routes needed? Count,
find percentage of cars, buses, and, commercial
vehicles going by.
Are cars full? Count how many people per car.
6Many classmates wanted to study busy streets. We
decided to see how many people were riding in
each vehicle.

Congestion causes accidents from rear-ending and
going through stop signs or red lights.
