A Brief History of Statistical Consulting at UCR
Initial Leadership for a Statistical Consulting
Laboratory was from Department of Statistics
Beginning around 1994 with Prof. David
Strauss, Emeritus Prof. Keh-Shin Lii Prof.
Robert Beaver Service was unofficial, in a
volunteer mode motivated by Labors of Love and a
sense of Professional Responsibility. Idea
conceived in 2001 for an Official Director of a
Statistical Consulting Collaboratory with joint
support from College of Natural and Agricultural
Sciences, College of Humanities, Arts and Social
Sciences and the Office of Computing and
Communications. Funds were provided for a staff
position (Manager) and a faculty position in the
Department of Statistics (Director) to provide
the leadership for upholding the reputation of
what had already been established and to grow the
initiative in both the on-campus and off-campus
dimensions.
