  • Secure Area - inaccurate data!!!
  • We will be discussing school data in RAP meetings

14
Who are our targeted pupils?
  • Refer to National Strategies Tracking Grid
  • We are required to report on pupil progress
for your targeted BCAP pupils. These are the
    pupils who
  • were in targeted focus groups between 2006 2008
  • were identified by class teachers in non focus
    groups in 2006 2008
  • (these pupils above, continue to be targeted
    this year)
  • are targeted in focus groups for 2008 2009
  • have been identified by class teachers in non
    focus groups in 2008 2009

15
Evaluating impact
  • Eileen McKen
  • Regional Advisor, National Strategies
  • Expectations for schools 2008 2009

Making a Big Difference in Mathematics (PSRN)
  • To develop the knowledge and understanding of
    specific issues around Black childrens
achievement in EYFS, particularly in Mathematics
  • To identify strategies for raising the
achievement of Black children in EYFS,
    particularly in Mathematics
  • To produce models of good practice for
    dissemination within school and beyond.

20
Planning for inclusion
  • Refer to EYFS plans for inclusion for Black
    pupils in Mathematics
  • RAPs will
  • address barriers to achievement
  • identify strategies for access and inclusion
  • consider the language of the curriculum
  • identify resources which support Black childrens
    learning
  • identify aspirational expectations
  • consider ways to involve parents/carers in
    mathematical learning
  • identify role models

21
What do we hope to achieve?
  • Targeted pupils make at least expected progress
    in line with aspirational expectations
  • Teachers have an increased awareness of
strategies to raise achievement of Black pupils
    in Mathematics
  • Raised awareness at whole school level of Black
pupils achievement in Mathematics in EYFS
  • Dissemination of good practice across the LA.

22
The Williams Report - 2008- recommendation
  • All practitioners need to have a clear grasp of
    how childrens understanding of mathematics
develops they need to be comfortable with
mathematical language and able to support
    childrens play
