Investigations 2 for elementary schools.
3WHY?
4It all started with the JCPS Vision For Effective
Mathematics Teaching.
5JCPS Vision for Effective Mathematics Teaching
- An effective and coherent mathematics program
must be grounded in a clear and shared vision of
teaching and learning.
6JCPS Vision for Effective Mathematics Teaching
- Highlights include

7Problem Solving, Reasoning, and Sense Making
In the upcoming video clip, first grade students
are problem solving through the question of the
day. Check out the problem solving and
reasoning!

15What examples of multiple representations did you
see?
16Steve Leinwand, a national math education expert,
facilitated the selection process resulting in
four programs which best supported the JCPS
Vision.
17Data about the programs was collected from focus
groups, coaches, teacher leaders, classroom
teachers, ECE teachers, ESL teachers, parents,
and community members.
18The most comprehensive analysis was completed by
65 elementary teacher volunteers from across the
county who spent over 24 hours comparing the four
programs to the district vision.
