Mars distance from the sun is 142 million miles.
Mars diameter is 4,222 miles wide.

Mars has two moons and their names are Deimos and
Phobos.

Mars' Discovery And Symbol
We dont know exactly who discovered Mars, but
its named after the Roman god of war because of
the reddish color. It reminded them of blood.

• Mars is -62º F on an average day. The minimum
  temperature on Mars is -266º F.
• One day on Mars is 24 hours and 37 minutes.
  One year on Mars is 687 days.

Exploration of Mars
Mars has been visited 9 times. Some of the
missions were Viking 1 and 2. Their missions
consisted of an Orbiter and Lander. They were
armed with sophisticated equipment.

Mars' Other Characteristics
Mars has the largest space volcano, Olympus Mons.
The base of Olympus Mons is as big as Colorado.
It is also two times the size of Mount Everest.
