Description of Project

• Created for proposal to AAMC Conference June 2005
• Currently under development
• Uses PDAs, wireless Internet database-enabled
  web application to replace single-purpose
  systems.
• Optimized for PocketPC with Flash, can also be
  used on notebooks, tablets or desktop PCs

Technical Requirements

• Server-side
• ASP.NET web application SQL-Server backend for
  high performance under heavy traffic conditions

• Client-side
• Wireless-enabled PDA or notebook
• Web browser with Flash Player
• Wireless Internet connection

Advantages

• Uses existing technologies (PDAs wireless Web
  access)
• More affordable than single-purpose proprietary
  systems
• Flexibility of homegrown system
• In-house support

Potential Drawbacks

• Requires each student to possess PDA or notebook
• Doesnt work if wireless net access is down
• Fewer features than vendor systems
• Not ready for immediate deployment
