What will students get from this?
  • demonstrate through application and reflection
the skills they have learned during their high
    school years.
  • develop their project based on their personal
interests and their abilities to highlight
critical thinking, problem solving, and the Six
    Strategies for Success.
  • gain an understanding of the relevance of their
studies here at North and their connections with
    the community.

Graduation Requirements
  • BCSC requires that all seniors complete a Senior
    Project.
  • Project Pride will appear on senior transcripts
    as a pass/fail grade.
  • Failure to complete ANY portion of Project Pride
will result in a failing grade, therefore not
    fulfilling district graduation requirements and
    that senior will not graduate.
  • The Senior Project Committee is comprised of
teachers in various disciplines and meets
periodically throughout the year to approve
topics and deal with the exceptional
    circumstances that may arise.

The 5 Required Components
  • Proposal A plan that identifies and outlines the
intentions of the project. Specifics as to how
the project benefits both the student and the
    community are clearly stated.
  • All proposals must be accepted by Sept 08
  • Proposal panels are made up of 2 teachers and 1
    volunteer (staff or community member).
  • Students are either passed as is or
recommendations for changes are made and the
student is responsible for making changes and
    resubmitting.

  • 2. Paper Research to provide additional
    background information for the project.
  • Proper research techniques are embedded in the
1st semester of the Senior English curriculum.
  • Students will be guided on the proper way to
    conduct research and compile evidence
  • Deadlines for paper completion will vary slightly
depending on teacher. Paper requirements will be
    uniform throughout.

6
  • 3. Project Collaboration with community members
in a responsible, organized manner in order to
facilitate the development and implementation of
    the proposed project.
  • Provides an individualized opportunity to
integrate student learning experiences here at
North within the framework of enriching our
    community
  • Topic based on personal interests
  • Showcases personal understanding and skills
  • Impact the community in some fashion, either
    actively or passively.

7
  • 4. Portfolio Every aspect of the project will be
    documented and presented chronologically in
    portfolio format.
  • Physical evidence of experiences through the
    implementation of the project.
  • Portfolios will be reviewed by the panel of
    judges prior to student presentations
  • Outline list of items to be included provided

8
  • 5. Presentation Portfolios and projects will be
presented in front of a panel of teachers and
    community members for evaluation.
  • Time for personal reflection and public
    celebration
  • Students chance to share with others what they
have accomplished and to be rewarded for their
    efforts.
  • Presentations should be between 8 and 10 minutes
    long
  • Conclude with the judges asking questions
    concerning the work and experiences.

9
Support for Students
  • The skills necessary to complete the project will
be taught in courses throughout the students
high school experience. It is the students
responsibility to apply the skills learned
    towards their project.
  • All students will select Community Mentors to
guide, encourage, assist, and support students in
    planning and developing meaningful projects.
  • Bull Dog Time teachers will periodically check
the progress of their seniors concerning their
senior project. If students are not on track
they will notify the Senior Project Coordinator
    for one on one counseling.
