Title: An Epistle of Effectual Grace

1
An Epistle of Effectual Grace
  • Concluding the
  • Book of Ephesians
  • Twin City Fellowship Ryan Habbena
  • January 6, 2008

2
A Plea for Prayer
  • Ephesians 619-20
  • And pray on my behalf, that utterance may be
given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make
known with boldness the mystery of the Gospel,
for which I am an ambassador in chains that in
proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to
    speak.

3
Answered Prayer
  • 2 Timothy 417-18
  • But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me,
so that through me the proclamation might be
fully accomplished, and that all the Gentiles
might hear and I was rescued out of the lion's
mouth. The Lord will rescue me from every evil
deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly
kingdom to Him be the glory forever and ever.
    Amen.

4
Comfort from Tychicus
  • Ephesians 621-22
  • But that you also may know about my
circumstances, how I am doing, Tychicus, the
beloved brother and faithful minister in the
Lord, will make everything known to you. I have
sent him to you for this purpose, so that you may
know about us, and that he may comfort your
    hearts.

5
A Fitting Benediction
  • Ephesians 623-24
  • Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith,
from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Grace be with all those who love our Lord Jesus
    Christ with incorruptible love.

6
An Epistle of Effectual Grace
  • Ephesians 118-19
  • I pray that the eyes of your heart may be
enlightened, so that you will know what is the
hope of His calling, what are the riches of the
glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what
is the surpassing greatness of His power toward
    us who believe.

7
Understanding the Power of Effectual Grace
  • Point 1
  • God, in his grace, loved you and chose you before
    the foundation of the world.
  • Ephesians 13-4 Blessed be the God and Father of
our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with
every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places
in Christ, just as He chose us in Him before the
foundation of the world, that we would be holy
and blameless before Him In love He predestined
    us . . .

8
Understanding the Power of Effectual Grace
  • Point 2
  • God has given you spiritual life by grace,
    through faith.
  • Ephesians 24-5
  • But God, being rich in mercy, because of His
great love with which He loved us, even when we
were dead in our transgressions, made us alive
together with Christ (by grace you have been
    saved)

9
Understanding the Power of Effectual Grace
  • Point 3
  • God has made you a co-heir of the Kingdom through
    the cross.
  • Ephesians 219 So then you are no longer
strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens
with the saints, and are of God's household.

10
Understanding the Power of Effectual Grace
  • Point 4
  • Gods grace compels us to walk worthy of our
    calling.
  • Ephesians 41 I . . . implore you to walk in a
manner worthy of the calling with which you have
    been called.
  • Ephesians 210 For we are His workmanship,
created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God
prepared beforehand so that we would walk in
    them.

11
Understanding thePower of Effectual Grace
  • Point 5
  • Gods grace compels us to pray and preach the
    Gospel.
  • Ephesians 618-19
  • With all prayer and petition pray at all times
in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the
alert with all perseverance and petition for all
the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance
may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to
make known with boldness the mystery of the
    gospel.

12
Remember Who You Wereand Who You Are
  • Ephesians 212-13
  • Remember that you were at that time separate
from Christ, excluded from the commonwealth of
Israel, and strangers to the covenants of
promise, having no hope and without God in the
world. But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly
were far off have been brought near by the blood
    of Christ.

13
Remember Why You AreIn Christ
  • Ephesians 21-4
  • And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
in which you formerly walked according to the
course of this world, according to the prince of
the power of the air, of the spirit that is now
working in the sons of disobedience. Among them
we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our
flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of
the mind, and were by nature children of wrath,
even as the rest. But God . . .
  • 1 Corinthians 1510
  • But by the grace of God I am what I am

14
Remember the Promise of Gods Eternal Kindness
  • Ephesians 26-7
  • He raised us up with Him, and seated us with
Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, so
that in the ages to come He might show the
surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward
    us in Christ Jesus.
