Step 1 Training Needs Analysis and Survey

• Carried out during August - October 2006 for
  Caldicott Guardians
• Made available to all Guardians on the health and
  social care registers
• Response rate of 17
• Example questions
• Level of training received
• Current training needs
• Preference for delivery of training

• A lack of recent training
• Perception of current training needs diverse -
  organisationally based
• Common theme - information sharing guidance/best
  practice
• Preferred training delivery methods -
  workshops/seminars and web-based learning

• Training needs analysis for IG Managers
• Development of Information Governance Network
• Contribute to the development of clear standards
• Provide quality assurance, to review materials
  for publication through the IG toolkit
• Share best practice nationally
• Create mechanisms to ensure consistent and

• National Vocational Qualifications and foundation
  degree courses
• Master-class courses for clinicians

• Development of an IG Training Tool
• Web-based, interactive tool
• Audio/visual scenarios relevant to staff working
  with personal records
• Linked to learning points, a knowledge-base
• Future developments - new scenarios, quizzes,
  possibly access for patients

• University of Bath/RCS of Edinburgh postgraduate
  programme in Healthcare Information Governance -
  hoping to provide bursaries
• More regional events
