3Introductions
- The 2008-2009 school year is my seventh year
teaching in the Wrentham School system. It is my
17th year teaching elementary school. I taught
first and second grade at Hyman Fine School in
Attleboro for eight years and second grade at The
Sullivans School in Yokosuka, Japan for two
years. I have a bachelors degree from Purdue
University and a Masters Degree from Bridgewater
State College. My family and I live in Mansfield.
4Mission Statement
- The mission of the Wrentham Public Schools is to
provide each student with the values, knowledge
and skills needed to reach his or her full
potential, maximize achievement and show
responsibility in interacting with others in our
diverse society. Wrentham students will learn
that responsibility earns respect and respect
leads to dignity. We will ensure an environment
in which the unique gifts of each individual are
developed and fortified, producing lifelong
learners, able to solve problems and think
creatively.

6School Procedures
- NOTES-
- Please send a note in lieu of a phone call
about early dismissal or appointments. - SCHOOL BUS POLICY-
- If your child is going to any other
destination, other than his or her assigned bus
stop, you must notify me in writing of that
change. - VISITORS
- If you visit the school please sign in at the
front office and wear a visitor badge. - Volunteers
- All volunteers need to have a CORI check before
they can work in the classroom.
7Dismissal Procedures Overview
- Beginning on Monday, September 22nd all students
being picked up will be dismissed from the
Delaney Cafeteria. - Teachers will notify the office staff each
morning of the names of students who will be
picked up in the afternoon and the office will
generate a daily list. - Parents will be required to sign students out.
- Specialists/Special ed. teachers will supervise
PM dismissal (duty schedule to be distributed
later today).

Enrichment ProgramThe 2008-2009 Enrichment
Program is conducted in TWO sessions of
instruction Grades 4-6 for the first half of
the school yearGrades K-3 for the second half
of the school yearAll grade levels receive one
instructional lesson per seven-day cycle for 50
minutes. The areas of instruction include
creative and critical thinking skills with an
emphasis on portions of The Talents Unlimited
Model for grades 3-6, and an introduction to The
Theory of Multiple Intelligences in grade 5.
The K-2 program is integrated with the Scott
Foresman Reading Program.

begins in grades 2-6 in late September grade 1
in November and in Kindergarten during the second
half of the school year.
15 Math Curriculum CompactingAll children in
grades K-6 are Pre-Tested in each math unit.
Those children who test for mastery (92) are
compacted for that unit. Packets of Enrichment
materials are distributed which may contain
advanced worksheets, games, computer programs
and/or independent research. Students who score
well, but less than 92 may be streamlined to
use certain components of the packet package.
16- Accelerated Reading Program
- Grades 1-6
- The AR Program is a voluntary ancillary reading
program for top readers in the classroom. It is
an easy program to manage with the student and
parent choosing a book from the AR list. The
child reads the book at home or during free
class time, and upon completion takes a test on
the classroom computer.
17- MADI Sign Up!
- (Massachusetts Association of Destination
ImaginNation) - Grades 3-6
- An informational meeting on MADI (Mass.
Association of Destination Imagination), a
program that enhances student creative problem
solving, will be held on Tuesday, September 23
from 7-8PM in the Vogel School Auditorium. This
extracurricular activity will be offered to all
Wrentham Public School students in grades 3-6 as
an after school program. Teams are formed the
evening of the September 23 so attendance is
important! - This meeting is for PARENTS who might like to
coach a team as well as for parents who are
looking for more information because they have a
child interested in this terrific program. All
CHILDREN attending must be accompanied by a

18Homework
- Students have homework every night (including
weekends). - Homework packets go home on Monday for the week.
Please send in only the assignment due for the
day. - Homework should take your child approximately 30
40 minutes each night.

- Directions for homework projects can be found on
our website. Ex. Science or Social Study projects - The weekly spelling list can also be found on the
web site.

21Wampanoag Visit
- This year on October 24th we will have the
opportunity to have Wampanoag people visit our
classroom. - This visit is in conjunction with our Social
Studies unit on the Wampanoag. - The museum teachers will be sharing many Native
American artifacts, legends and slide show about
the Wampanoag.
22Field Trips
- Pilgrims will visit Wrentham
- On December 8th people will come to the class
dressed as Colonists. The role player will spend
a lively hour of storytelling, sharing, and
discussion with the class. - Wrentham visits Plimoth Plantation
- The students will attend a private tour of the
Plimoth Plantation. It is a unique opportunity
to work side-by-side with Pilgrims. This trip
will be the week of December 8th.
23 MCAS Third graders take
the ELA MCAS in 3 sessions. March 31, April 1,
and April 2, 2009 The Math MCAS will be given in
2 sessions. May 12, and May 13, 2009 Please
try not to take vacation at that time.
Students reading and math skills are tested in
third grade.

- Book orders will be sent home on Monday.

25Birthday/snack
- Please be sure to provide your child with a
healthy snack and drink every day. - Due to our new Wellness policy we are limited to
celebrating birthdays once a month. Our room
parent will help coordinate a special birthday
snack.

28READING ACROSS WRENTHAM This is a program that
starts in December. Students will read a
certain number of pages to reach a level. As
students achieve a level they will receive a
donated prize from the PTO. There will be an
award ceremony at the end of the program.
