9National Picture
- Response from 1,034 affiliated golf clubs
- 89 of golf clubs have vacancies
- 46,990 vacancies actually exist
- Junior of total membership is 8 (still one of
lowest in Europe) - Highest increase in boys, lowest in adult females
- No real change in membership fees, apart from
adult females - Golf clubs more flexible in accepting new members
- Many positive junior trends emerging

- 100 of clubs have vacancies.
- 73 of clubs actively seeking more members.
- Juniors make up only 9 of a clubs membership.
- 18-25 yrs old retention ?
- Average age of members is 55.

13County Golf Partnerships
- About
- County Golf Partnerships (CGP) are an effective
and structured way to support the development of
golf within a county. - By the County Union and Association working
closely together with other appropriate bodies
(such as a County PGA) at county level knowledge,
experience, best practice and resources can be
combined and utilised. - In addition a CGP will be better positioned to
access external funding from local organisations. - The EGU and ELGA can provide support in
facilitating the creation of a CGP and in the
production and implementation of a county
development plan.

- Aims of a CGP
- The overall aims of a CGP could potentially be
- To promote the game of golf and increase peoples
awareness. - To introduce more people to golf regardless of
age, gender or background. - To provide opportunities for people to sustain
their involvement and regularly participate in
golf. - To educate people on the rules and etiquette of
the game. - To make it easier for people to join a golf club
by improving accessibility and affordability. - To undertake the training and support of
volunteers. - To establish a repository of standards and good
practice. - To support the development of golfing talent by
working with the appropriate bodies.

- Sharing best practice, knowledge, experience and
resources. - Identifying the development needs of golf within
the county priorities intentions. - Provide an effective and structured framework.
- Supporting and motivating volunteers, coaches,
administrators, golf clubs and golfers
within the county. - Evaluation review process.
- Understanding and servicing the needs of golf
clubs and other facilities. - Accessing EGU/ELGA funding for golf development.
- Accessing external funding for golf development.
- Linking into a national development plan.
- Ongoing support from an EGU/ELGA Regional
Development Officer (RDO).
16County Golf Partnerships
- Funding for a CGP
- Phase 1 - Up to a maximum of 2,500 to assist a
CGP in the production of a county development
plan that links in with the national development
plan produced by the England Golf Partnership
(EGP). Also to support communication with clubs,
promotional material, workshop/forum expenses,
volunteer expenses, audit/survey of clubs,
working group expenses and other areas of
research. - Phase 2 - Up to a maximum of 10,000 (per year
for 3 years) to support the implementation of a
CGP development plan, based on the budget
outlined by the partnership. - Process for a CGP
- Phase 1 The partnership should form a terms of
reference, open a bank account (if applicable)
and complete a time line for the project. - Phase 2 Construct and implement a countywide
development plan.
