TerraServer

• Its an internet-accessible database for
  high-resolution photos and topographic maps of
  the United States.

• TerraServer is the result of a Microsoft
  marketing promotion.
• In the 1990s Microsoft upgraded the server.
• The new version was free, interesting and
  processed a very large database.

• The browser will display a digital photo and a
  map of that location.
• You can zoom in and out and scroll to adjacent
  locations.
• It has a library of a large amount of aerial
  photos collected over the years by the U.S.
  Geological Survey.
• Since this files are far too large to be
  transmitted over the internet, each photo is cut
  into sections, and then stored as images in the
  TerraServer database.

• As of February 2003, it has been used by more
  than 67 million users and has processed more than
  7.5 billion database queries.

Its a great website that Microsoft has
developed, but they should modify it and increase
the images for the different locations in the
different areas of the world. As technology keeps
advancing, the need for interesting, educational
and free resources are to be more available.
