Title: White Air

1
White Air
  • Europes Premier Extreme Sports and Music
    Festival

2
White Air - Background
  • The White Air Festival was established in 1996 by
Windsurfing World event champion and 06/7
Kitesurfing UK champion Nigel Howell. After
competing for 10 years on the World Cup circuit
Nigel established the White Air Extreme Sports
    Festival, a multi-sport festival providing a huge
diversity of natural and powered sports with
action on land, beach and water
  • Beginning as a surfing event on a beach in the
Isle of Wight initially with 35 participants and
a handful of spectators, the festival has grown
year on year and now attracts more than 500 world
class competitors across 26 extreme sports

3
White Air - Action
4
White Air - Today
  • Already the biggest water and land-based ticketed
festival in the UK and Europe
  • Events include numerous World and European
Championships plus open events for all to enter
  • Have a Go inter-action and introductory sports
sessions are available to all spectators - 4,809
sessions were taken up at the 2007 event (7x
    increase on 2006)
  • In 2007 White Air attracted over 500 competitors
and 50,000 spectators, with 14,000 within the
    main village environment
  • A live music stage provides additional evening
    entertainment

5
White Air - Moving Forward
  • Re-locating the festival from our current base in
the Isle of Wight to Brighton offers easier
    geographical access, increased accommodation
options and improved transport links from London
and elsewhere which will enable us to attract
    significantly larger audiences
  • The Brighton site will encourage far more
participants and spectators - a total estimated
viewing audience of 400,000 plus over the
    festival
  • In 2009 White Air will attract between 30-50,000
paying spectators within the main village
    environment
  • White Air already has provisional commitments for
prestigious air displays by the Red Arrows and
    Falcons, which will generate substantial
spectator appeal, press and television coverage

6
White Air - Working With Brighton
  • The White Air festival generates enormous media
coverage, which can also highlight the range of
healthy outdoor sporting and lifestyle activities
available in Brighton and West Sussex
  • White Air currently has 50 million readership
figures (distribution 14.5million), with 9 TV
shows and a value of 200,000 EAC. We predict
this will increase to 100 million with the move
to Brighton and more than double the EAC value
  • To help promote the re-location to Brighton we
will expand the already highly ranked White Air
Web Site, anticipating more than one million
    unique views
  • 500,000 minutes are currently viewed annually on
White Air TV, expected to reach 2,000,000 minutes
by 2009. This will be used as another platform on
which to promote the festival, the location, the
natural resources of the area and its tourism
    attractions
  • White Air will provide live coverage for our
world-wide web viewing audience - material which
can also be made available for the Visit Brighton
    website

White Air - The Audience
  • The White Air festival attracts a wide ranging
demographic due to the diversity of sports and
    music offered
  • Our unique formula allows White Air to control
the demographic to suit the specific location and
    sports
  • The extreme sports and music combination means
that White Air can target and attract a
    supplementary audience to Brighton

11

  • 22 million snowboarders
  • 28 million surfers
  • 20 million windsurfers
  • 37 million skateboarders

12
White Air - THE Market Leader
  • Worldwide, White Air ranks No 1 in Google and
other search engines for extreme sports
festivals. This will in turn link directly to
    various Brighton tourism sites
  • Worldwide, White Air ranks No 7 in Google for
    extreme sports
  • White Air is unique in that it creates a single
extreme sports village environment, for both
daytime sports and evening music. All at one
    controlled and safe location
  • This is the only umbrella festival to offer an
extensive range of natural and powered sports
based on water, land and beach and combining a
    music event
  • White Air offers multiple pillars of support - if
one sport falls out of vogue another takes its
place, ensuring an indefinite lifespan for the
    festival

higher disposable income audience than any of our
competitors and therefore delivers far greater
individual spending activity and local tourism
    revenue

13
White Air - Aim and Support
  • Our aim is simple . to re-locate the already
successful White Air event to Brighton,
establishing it at this new location as the
Worlds premier ticketed extreme sports and music
    festival
  • In return we are seeking a long term relationship
with Brighton Council and a commitment to enable
    our transition and growth
  • Financial and in kind input each year
  • Integration within Visit Brighton promotional
material and any other relevant local and
    county tourism literature
  • A long term contract to permit exclusive use of
the designated beach area, seafront, and road
    closures, etc
