The new Danish programme for research
infrastructures will support..
  • Establishment of large, national research
    infrastructures
  • Danish participation in international research
    infrastructures
  • Design studies, feasibility studies etc.

Who can apply?
  • Universities and other research institutions (Top
    management)
  • hopefully in consortia's that includes all
    relevant Danish research institutions.

Guiding principles
  • All projects will be examined with regards to
    both their scientific value and the possible
    strategic impact
  • Possibility for prioritization between national
    and international projects within all fields of
    science
  • Projects will only be funded if the realization
    of the project is in line with the strategic
    planning of the possible hosting institution

Criteria
  • The programme will mainly support projects of a
    minimum of 20 mio. DKK
  • The state grant will cover up to 80 of the
    total investment
  • The institutions must commit the necessary human
    resources and capital resources in order to
    achieve the optimum use of the research
    infrastructure need to have/nice to have.
  • The programme supports the establishment or
    construction of research infrastructures only
    in special cases you can get support to cover
    operational costs.

  • The results of a hearing process among major
    stakeholders regarding the needs and relevance of
    the suggested project
  • The recommendation of the Expert Committee
  • Advice from the Danish Research Coordination
    Committee

Next steps
  • Call for proposals has been launched last week
  • Deadline for applications for design studies and
    expressions of interest for national and
    international research infrastructures on May 9
  • Then we will have a much more solid knowledge of
    the Danish needs, and the Danish priorities
    regarding the ESFRI Roadmap
  • On Wednesday we will host a workshop on all these
    issues

Status
  • November 2006 DASTI initiated a hearing procedure
    amongst Danish research institutions and councils
    (80 parties were addressed)
  • We received 16 answers (universities and
    councils)
  • Indications of
  • interests in a role as a facility host
  • interests in a role as facility partner (incl.
    leading partnership)
  • interests in a role as user of the facility
  • The feed back focuses on 8 10 of the roadmap
    initiatives

Activities to come..
  • Evaluation and qualification of results of
    hearing (national workshop 28. march) stimulate
    the process of establishing groups both with
    regard to the national programme and the
    ESFRI-roadmap.
  • Danish roadmap on research infrastructures (we
    start after we have had the experience from the
    fist call in 2007)
  • Facilitating and coordinating national
    initiatives (focused analysis, mappings etc.)
  • Evaluation of current Danish membership of
    international research infrastructures (2008-)
