Title: Community Matters

1
  • Community Matters

2
Difference between hard and soft
  • In a hard federation there is one super
Headteacher and one governing body in charge of
    the schools within the federation.
  • In a soft federation each school within the
federation retains their own Headteacher and
    governing body.

3
Why the federation was formed?
  • Worked well as cluster
  • Moving for secondary led to a collegiate model
(were working together on this and we can get
    better together)
  • To sustain services and staffing
  • To expand provision
  • Branding

4
How the federation works
  • Governance
  • Headteacher group
  • Operational group
  • School partnerships(MFL, EAL,ETC)
  • Parent groups
  • Partnership working

5
  • What you understand as community may depend
on where you sit and how you
    define community.

6
Task 1
  • Why do you want to work with your community?

7
Task 2
  • Who is your community?

8
  • What we have learnt from our experience.

9
  • Partnership programmes or activities require a
focus if they are to sustain interest and
    conserve time, energy and resources

10
  • Collaboration has to have a human face.

11
  • Parameters have to be clear .
  • There are limitations and restrictions within
    which partners must operate.

12
  • Adequate resources have to be provided-
  • time
  • space
  • and money.

13
  • Nurture and walk with those parents and
members of your community who want to work with
you. Never race ahead of them.

14
  • In your own context

15
  • Learners construct knowledge for themselves.
  • The same applies to organisations.

16
  • Learners and learning organisations construct
learning in their own context and by dealing with
the contingencies which they face in their daily
    work.
  • MacBeath 1999 p9

17
  • The further we venture into this complex
territory, the more we discover about community,
family and neighbourhood effects. The more we
discover, the more we know about what pupils
bring with them into the classroom and take away
with them to their homes. What they bring with
them is a groundbed of attitudes, beliefs and
convictions on which the seeds of knowledge sit,
take root or are quickly washed away.
  • MacBeath 1999 p13

18
  • The truth is that what happens outside schools
    matters more.
  • MacBeath 1999 p13

19
  • What is effective may depend on where you
sit and how you define effective.
