Romanov History
  • The Romanovs ruled for a little over 300 years
  • Anastasias Great Grandfather Alexander II freed
    serfs land workers.
  • 1881, Alexander II died in a carriage bombing.
  • Alexander III (Grandfather) believed in autocracy
    and persecuted minorities.

Anastasia
  • Anastasia was a funny and outgoing child.
  • She loved to play practical jokes and pranks.
  • She was the most intelligent and mischievous of
    her family.
  • She was the youngest daughter.

Anastasias Family
  • Anastasia had three older sisters Olga,
    Tatiana, and Marie.
  • She also had a younger brother, the tsarevich
    Alexei. He had Hemophilia, that means that his
    blood didnt clot properly.
  • She had a mom, Alexandria, and dad, Nicholas.
  • The family had 2 dogs, Jemmy and Shipka. (both
    spaniels.)

  • They lived most of their lives at the Alexander
    Palace in Tsarkoe Selo.
  • Alexandra was born a German princess.
  • Most Russians believed Alexandra to be sour and
    unpleasant.
  • The children were kept away from the outside
    world.
  • Few people knew about Alexeis Disease.

Rasputin
  • Rasputin was born to a Siberian farmer.
  • Most people who knew him believed him to be a
    drunk.
  • One day he claimed that god had spoken to him. He
    was called to the palace to cure Alexei.
  • He was killed by two of Nicholas relatives. He
    wrote a note to Nick saying If it was your
    relations that who have wrought my death then no
    one in your family will live for more than two
    years, they will be killed by the Russian
    people. before he died.

Revolution Rebellions
  • Nicholas listened too much to his advisors, he
    followed in his fathers foot steps and
    persecuted minorities.
  • In 1905, workers petitioned the tsar and where
    fired at by soldiers, this day is called Bloody
    Sunday

Nick gives up his crown
  • On March 20th, 1917, Nicholas returned home no
    longer the tsar of Russia.
  • He had signed a document turning control over to
    the Duma, a small government in Russia.

Imprisonment in the Palace
  • For a long time nothing changed much for the
    family, Alexei and the Little pair (Anastasia
    and Marie) resumed lessons with their tutors,
    Olga kept her nose in a book, and Tatiana
    practiced the piano.
  • On August 14th, 1917, the family boarded a train
    bound for Siberia.

Siberia
  • They lived in a large, white house in Tobolsk,
    Siberia.
  • In April, 1918, a train with Nicholas, Alexandra,
    and Marie left for Moscow for trial.
  • Along the way the train was stopped by Bolshevik
    officials and they were taken to a new prison.
  • The new prison was in Ekaterinburg.
  • The windows were white-washed, the jailors
    ransacked their luggage, their food was often
    black bread and tea, or watery soup. The jailor
    were rude and abusive, and they had no privacy
    since all the doors, including the bathroom and
    bedrooms, had been removed.

Death
  • In the middle of the night on June 16th the
    family was awakened and told there was an unrest
    in the town, they would have to go to the cellar
    for there own protection.
  • The commander came in with eleven soldiers. The
    commander read from a piece of paper stating that
    the family was going to be executed.
  • The room erupted with gunfire. The girls had
    sewn diamonds into their corsets incase the
    family escaped so they would have money to live
    on, they jewels acted like shields and they
    bullets bounced off and flew around the room.
  • After the first line of shooting was done all
    that was left was Anastasia and Marie crying and
    hugging each other against the wall.
  • The room erupted again until all the crying had
    stopped.

Remembrance
  • On July 17th 1998, 80 years after their death,
    the Romanov family was being honored with a
    funeral.
  • In 1991 the bones of the last imperial family had
    been found, except those of Anastasia and Alexei.

Anna Anderson
  • Anna Anderson had convinced many people that she
    was Anastasia, even people who had known
    Anastasia personally.
  • When DNA tests were done after her death, she was
    found to be an imposter.
  • Many people still want to believe that Anastasia
    Romanov survived that horrible night in the
    cellar.
