Title: India is Shining
1India is Shining
2Well in some ways it is but the contradictions
are many
- One of the worlds fastest growing economies . .
. yet 40 live below the poverty line (earning
less then 80 per annum) - Bangalore is the internationally renowned
Silicon Valley of India . . . yet more that
half the population still makes a living through
farming - Though low labor costs have attracted billions of
dollars in foreign investment . . . living and
working conditions have not improved for many and
child labor is still common - Largest network of higher educational
institutions in the world . . . yet 30 of the
population is illiterate
3Can Indians take charge of Indias destiny and
proudly make India SHINE..???Can Individuals
make a difference to some of the issues facing
India or should they just wait for our
governments to do something ..???
4You have to be the change that you want to see in
the world. Mahatma Gandhi
5Indians want to be the change
- Individuals in India are looking at ways to
contribute back to the society by donating there
time and skills - More and more people are looking at ways of
sharing skills with people who need it the
most.People from all walks of life are looking at
opportunities to volunteer their time.
6At iVolunteer we are trying to convert these good
intentions into actions
7iVolunteer is trying to create a volunteering
movement in India.and the movement will have in
the next 4 years
- Volunteering infrastructure that will connect
volunteers with volunteering opportunities - 10,000 happy volunteering experiences
- Volunteer ambassadors and patrons
- A network of credible institutions
- And a lot of marketing to put volunteering as top
of the mind activity
8In order to make volunteering a movement we are
trying to connect with Youth because..
- Catch them Young syndrome.. much more than just
the marketing jargon - Youth is the present and the future
- Have time and are in some ways more idealistic
- We can identify with them ( though old age is
catching up with us now ? )
9Examples of Projects with youth
- Volunteer opportunites for young graduates from
colleges like IIPM, Western University - Students get firsthand experience of working with
non-profits.
10Projects contd..
- Time bound projects with professional colleges
- Find the innovations project with Agricultural
students - Customized summer placements for students
- Students of law college in Guildford, London
coming to India on short-term assignments
11Projects contd.
- Volunteer fairs
- Delhi university
- Bombay and Chennai
- Students gets to have 1st hand interaction with
NGOs - Gets listed as volunteers on the spot
12What is the bottomline..in working with youth
- If we catch them young we get volunteers for life
and some of them could be potential volunteer
ambassador. - If we can motivate few of the students from
premier colleges in India to work in the social
sector- the value delivered by them will be
phenomenal.
13To Achieve our vision
- We have a committed and professional team
- We have a Business Plan that guides us
- Process of identifying credible non-profits and
volunteering opportunities. - Process of targeting potential volunteers
- iVolunteer portal which is our FRONT END to the
world
14In Summary
- iVolunteer wants to catalyze a volunteering
movement in India - We see volunteering a way in which individuals
can effectively contribute back to the society
and live up to the dreams of Noble Laureate
Rabindra Nath Tagore. Let my country awake - We realize that its a huge task and we will need
to put in lots of hard work and need assistance
of like minded people/organizations to make our
vision come true.
