  • Mainly grain producing state.
  • Basmati Rice is the pride production of the
    State.
  • 86.3 land cultivatable, Cropping intensity
    182.39, 82.3 land stands irrigation facility
    provided.
  • Haryana Stands 3rd in Mushroom and fourth in
    flower production and 10th in Green (food/
    vegetable) production.

About Us
  • Marketing Board was constituted in August, 1969
    with an aim to create a strong and efficient
    marketing infrastructure by setting up modern
    markets for marketing Grain and Greens.
  • The primary objective was/is to set up a
    marketing infrastructure for better regulation of
    the purchase, sale, storage and processing of
    agricultural and Horticultural produce.
  • We have set up 106 principal market yards, 180
    Sub yards and 178 Purchase Centers in the entire
    state leaving only 8 Km. distance from
    farm/field.
  • We are engaged in multifarious activities for
    farming community and rural development such as
    constructing / modernizing agricultural/horticult
    ural marketing infrastructure, warehousing, cold
    storage, rural roads , rural stadiums, model
    villages and especially a cool chain ripening
    chambers/sorting grading and Packing Facilities
    throughout the state.

About Us - Contd..
  • We are setting up a Terminal Market in National
    Capital Region at Gannaur (Distt. Sonepat) on the
    NH-I about 40 Km. from Delhi on a area of 500
    acres with an estimated cost of Rs. 500 crore for
    which land stands almost acquired.
  • We are setting up Timber Market at Yamuna Nagar,
    Rohtak and Sonepat.
  • We are earning approx Rs. 400 crores per annum,
    which is likely to increase at the pace of 20-30
    annually.

    opportunities and to set up efficient and
    knowledge based marketing systems and services to
    increase the net income in the agriculture
    segment. Thus, building a prosperous, progressive
    and proud farmer.

Targets in Horticulture Sector.
  • Seeking to emerge as a major producer of fruit
    and vegetable.
  • Enduring to increase horticulture production by
    taking advantage of Good Canal
    Network/rainfall/soil conditions and hardworking
    peasantry, Conducive environment.
  • Gearing up to Exploit export potential -
    proximity to Delhi - International Airport 6
    Air Strips in the State
  • Total fruits, vegetables and other horticulture
    production in the state is around 41.72 lakh MT
    with an area coverage of 3.57 lakh Ha

  • Main vegetable crops Potato, Onion, Tomato,
    Cauliflower, Carrots, cucurbits, Mushroom, Leafy
    , Root Vegetables and Babycorn Main Fruits are
    Kinnow, Mango, Guava, Ber, Aonla.
  • About 39,132 hectares land is under orchards
    like malta, Kinnow, mausami, ber (Indian Jujube),
    Guava and Mangoes - Plantation in 12,000 Ha made
    during last 3 years.
  • About 3,57,000 Hectares of land is under
    Horticulture production which is around 5.5 of
    the total cultivable area in Haryana.
  • In country, the Haryanas share in Fruit
    vegetable production is 3.5

Thrust Areas
  • To increase horticulture production and reduce
    perishability for post harvest management and
    value addition.
  • To establish cool chain / ripening chambers/
    grading packing facilities.
  • To introduce Market intervention schemes to
    safe-guard the interest of farmers.
  • To form Co-operatives as a tool to negotiate the
    interest of farmers.
  • To develop Processing Plants Marketing
    infrastructure in such a way that demand and
    supply are fully met without any ups and downs .
  • Marketing intelligence to seminate price
    information with such a pattern that a national
    grid of fruit and vegetables is formed.
  • To decongest market yards and reduce gluts and
    modernization thereof.
  • Waste disposal / waste management system through
    Vermi compost and Bio-Mass power plants.
  • To Computerize all principal/Sub yards.

Strategies adopted
  • Contract Farming introduced in the state by
    amending the PAPM Act in aug,2007 Four Companies
    , Namely have taken up the contract farming -
  • 1. M/S SKOL Brewaries Pvt.Ltd.
    2300 Acres.
  • 2. HAFED, Panchkula.
    6000 Acres
  • 3. United Brewaries Pvt.
    Ltd.Patiala.10000 Acres
  • 4. M/S Techno Agri. Sciences.

  • Export Promotion Policy - The Board has launched
    export promotion policy which seeks to provide
    technical and financial assistance to the farmers
    for upgrading the quality of produce and to take
    up value addition activities. It promotes
    formation of growers groups/ societies for this
    purposes. An Export Promotion Council is also
    proposed to be created.
  • Farmers Marketing Assistance Scheme - Scheme
    has been formulated recently to adopt practices
    for value addition. Under this scheme ,assistance
    for grading/sorting and packing material and
    transportation is provided.
  • Setting-up of Lab Facilities - In order to
    increase competitiveness of the growers produce,
    a network of labs for quality testing
    certification is being created through out the
    State.
  • Haryana Farmers are being sponsored to different
    Countries like China and Israil for having better
    marketing awareness.

Hurdles we are facing-
  • Lack of proper grading, sorting, cleaning,
    sanitation and handling lines.
  • Lack of cool chain and long delays without
    cooling.
  • Lack of farmer awareness and good farm practices.
  • Lack of collection and storage facility at farm
    gate.
  • Losses due to Packing and Packaging Material.
  • Storage and Transportation Losses.
  • Use of inappropriate chemicals or misuse of
    registered compounds in ripening and field
    activities etc.
  • Poorly implemented quality grades and standards.
  • Improper parking place and movement in market
    yards.
  • Lack of Quality Retention.

Major Projects in hand
  • Establishing a world class Terminal market at
    Gannaur (distt. Sonepat) , near Delhi on NH1 for
    fruits vegetables for catering to North India.
  • Establishing International Flower market and
    Auction house at Gurgaon, near Delhi on NH8 for
    catering to whole of north region.
  • Establishing 6 Agro Malls at six prime stations
    in the State
  • Working for setting up of pack houses with
    grading, sorting, cool chambers and ripening
    facilities in 11 centers/ Ten completed or
    nearing completion and another 17 planned.
  • Setting up 100 nos. collection centers for
    horticulture production planned.
  • Establishing Agri-business knowledge centers in
    every market for market/production related
    information .
  • Constructing Wholesale Air Conditioned Fruit
    Vegetable Market at 6 stations

  • Terminal Market Its a destination where
    horticulture produce of the region will finally
    arrive from the farmers for its sale to the
    consumers end . This Market will be equipped
    with all the latest modern marketing
    infrastructure to handle the bulk supply and
    shall reduce post harvest losses to a bare
    minimum. All the facilities and services will be
    available here as are available in Rungis Market
    of France.

  • Situated at NH1 within NCR region, Delhi A huge
    consumption market and export base.
  • Designed to handle production of northern region
  • An alternate to Delhi-Azadpur market.
  • Area earmarked Approx 500 acres
  • Will serve nearby states of JK, Himachal

Modern Fruit Vegetable Market at Mewat
  • Mewat is within the vicinity of National capital
    and Gurgaon which is a huge consumption market
    and has connectivity with the International
    Airport Delhi. This area has a high potential in
    terms of horticulture growth and through this
    market we can tap production of nearby state
    Rajasthan also. The state government is offering
    special incentive to this area with a commitment
    to deliver social and economic justice to the
    backward and underprivileged section of the
    society/ farmers in Mewat. This market will
    achieve the social goal and will also boost the
    economy of this backward area. The Central Govt.
    / Planning commission have also laid special
    emphasis on annual plans with a view to provide
    education, enhance their economic power along
    with social upliftment with a holistic approach.

  • The following Mandis have been selected to be
    developed into Commodity Hubs cum Pack Houses
    considering their production and location-
  • Yamunanagar is the most fertile and well
    irrigated district falling in Yamuna Basin and
    has a high potential of Horticulture production.
    The District has the highest production of
    mangoes and touches Uttranchal, a major
    Horticulture producing state.
  • (2) Timber Market is being developed at Yamuna
    Nagar
  • Faridabad A densely populated city having
    border with Delhi. It is the first industrial
    estate of the state. High profile population
    allows it to become a huge consumption market for
    horticulture production.
  • Ambala Good fertile land allows it to become a
    good producing area. It is also an industrial
    estate and cantonment area. A Highly densely
    populated city results into a good consumption
    market. It is located near UT, Chandigarh.
  • Jind It is a centrally located city of the
    state and has a potential of growth in
    horticulture production. It is well connected to
    the national capital through rail and national
    highways.

  • Pehowa(Distt. Kurukshetra) It is situated on
    the Divine Saraswati river having abundant ground
    water which makes it the best tubewell irrigated
    area. Presently, wheat, rice and potatoes are
    grown here and diversification is possible
    through such facilities.
  • Indri(Distt Karnal) This is most fertile area
    of the state and a lot of tomatoes are grown here
    and it can emerge as a tomato hub along with
    other horticultural crops. It is situated on NH1.
  • Bhiwani Partly irrigated and partly barren
    land, we can exploit this district for organic
    horticulture farming. A lot of tomatoes and
    cucurbits are grown in this district. It is well
    connected to Delhi. Ideally suited for drip
    irrigation through tanks as envisaged under
    N.H.M. projects.
  • Rewari It is situated within NCR region and it
    is gateway to Rajasthan Delhi and has high
    potential of growth of horticulture production
    and access to consumption market such as Gurgaon
    and Delhi.

  • Sirsa District Sirsa is known for its citrus
    fruits such as Kinnow and Malta, which are being
    grown there since 1950s. NHM has given special
    incentive to district for citrus promotion and
    most of the states Kinnow is grown here. It is a
    good vegetable producing area.
  • Fatehabad A highly fertile district and has
    high potential for horticulture growth and is
    situated on NH10.
  • Bahadurgarh ( Distt. Jhajjar) This town is part
    of National capital region and most of the
    farmers are already engaged in vegetable
    production and they are going to Delhi for its
    sale.
  • Kurukshetra The city is well connected to the
    state and national capital. The land is highly
    fertile and lot of vegetables potatoes are
    grown here.
  • Indri A highly fertile area and it is known for
    its tomato production and has high potential for
    the growth of other vegetables also.

  • Badal (Distt. Bhiwani) This is also a major
    producing area of tomatoes and the soil condition
    of the area allows it to become the best for
    horticulture production along with citrus
    cultivation.
  • Yamunanagar This is a mango specific hub to
    cater to the demands of mango growers.
  • Tohana (Distt. Fatehabad) A highly fertile area
    and lot of vegetables are grown here and is well
    connected to Delhi Punjab through rail and road
    network.
  • Gohana (Distt. Sonepat) It is known for its
    horticulture production and Safal market is
    already sourcing the vegetables from this area.
    It is situated within the NCR region
  • Farukh Nagar (Distt. Gurgaon) It is within the
    vicinity of Gurgaon city, which is known as the
    best destination for corporates resulting into a
    huge consumption market. Also population of
    Gurgaon has risen tremendously during the
    preceding years and most of the vegetables are
    brought here from other states to fulfill the
    demand.
