Intended Audience
  • Intended for Mature Audiences (over 17), hence
the MA rating on the game (language, violence,
    gore).
  • People who like to be scared and surprised.

6
Vendor/Developer
  • Capcom
  • Resident Evil was orginally going to be a first
    person shooter game.
  • Many say it was based off of the popular computer
    game Alone in The Dark.

7
Object and Description of Play
  • With Resident Evil, the idea is to play through
the game without getting killed by monsters of
some sort. Along the way, you save characters
that you meet within the game or characters that
you were pre-assigned to save. On a side note,
you uncover pieces of the story as you go along
as well by reading letters and different diaries.
  • The Resident Evil games are based on navigating
through the game and solving puzzles in order to
get items that allow you to move on (keys, gems,
    books).

8
Key Features
  • Fixed Camera Angles (Except RE4)
  • Pre-rendered backgrounds (Except RE4)
  • Different playable characters
  • Different storylines depending on which character
    you pick.

9
Key Strategies
  • Not much strategy within the game
  • RE is set, for the most part, on a one track
basis. Starting from the beginning and making it
    through to the end.
  • Conserving ammo for harder bosses by dodging
    enemies instead of shooting them.
  • Thinking do I really need ammo right now.
Leaving ammo in case you come back to that spot
    later.

10
What makes it fun to play?
  • The idea of being scared but knowing that you
    have to move on.
  • Why is it scary The idea that these are supposed
to be humans beings like you and me trapped in
the situation. The question of what if this
    could really happen?
  • Capcom uses ideas within the game that exist in
    real life (viruses, assault weapons)

11
What makes it fun to play?
  • Amazingly rendered graphics (especially RE
(Re-release), and RE 0. Lighting is a main
feature that determines whether something looks
    real or not.
  • Exploring areas to look at how much detail the
    designers put into the scenery.
  • Our own imaginations, for example when reading a
personal letter within the game it might not
always show pictures. However, what we come up
with in our minds will add to the suspense

12
What makes it fun to play?
  • Being able to shoot monsters
  • The element of surprise within the game
  • The different music changes when situations occur
    within the game.
  • Uncovering the story behind it all.
  • Being able to play as different characters
  • Having the outcome change within the game
depending on who you save and who you do not
    save.
  • Seeing how the story ties in with another
    playable character within the game.

13
What makes it fun to play?
  • Being able to shoot different areas of the
    monsters body.
  • Using different weapons on monsters
  • Getting specials at the end of the game depending
on how many saves you made and how much times you
    spent on the game.
  • Some of the RE games allow you to arrange items
differently throughout the game, which allows for
    less repetition.
