3Since 1845, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)
has had one mission
the Great Commission.
4Go therefore, and make disciples of all the
nations. (Matthew 2819, NKJ)
5The KBC Mission Statement The mission of the
Kentucky Baptist Convention is to assist Kentucky
Baptist Convention churches and ministries and
associations
6The KBC Mission Statement in connecting all
people to Jesus Christ.
7The history
8Prior to 1925, SBC entities competed with one
another for the churches missions gifts.
9Entities had to raise funds church by church. The
process was cumbersome, inefficient and
ineffective.
10Then a new approach originated in Kentucky.
11In 1915, Boyce Taylor, pastor of FBC, Murray
developed a plan for unified giving.
12Through this plan, offerings were divided among
various ministries on a predetermined percentage
basis.
13The SBC used a similar approach in 1919 with
the 75 Million Campaign.
14This led to the launch of the Cooperative Program
in 1925.
15In Kentucky, more than 660 million has been
given to share the Gospel through CP.
16The process
17The process begins when you give yourself to
God. (2 Corinthians 85)
18Out of gratitude and obedience to God, you give
back to the Lord through your church.
19Your church prayerfully decides how much of its
undesignated gifts will be committed to CP
Missions.
20Messengers to the KBC annual meeting, elected by
local churches, decide how CP gifts are divided.
21Here in Kentucky, 37.32 is sent to the SBC
36.83 funds KBC Mission Board ministries and
25.85 supports Christian education and KBC
entities. - 2009-10 CP budget goals
