How Could Anyone Receive Forgiveness From Sin? .
9
Hebrews 922
  • And almost all things are by the law purged with
blood and without the shedding of blood there is
    no forgiveness(of sins).

10
Why Blood??
  • For the life of a creature is in the blood, and
I have given it to you to make atonement for
yourselves on the altar it is the blood that
makes atonement for ones life.Leviticus 1711

11
The Old Way
  • Hebrews 96-10 (New American Standard Bible)
  •  6 Now when these things have been so prepared,
the priests are continually entering the outer
    tabernacle performing the divine worship,
  • 7 but into the second, only the high priest
enters once a year, not without taking blood,
which he offers for himself and for the sins of
    the people committed in ignorance.
  • 8 The Holy Spirit is signifying this, that the
way into the holy place has not yet been
disclosed while the outer tabernacle is still
    standing,
  • 9which is a symbol for the present time.
Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered
which cannot make the worshiper perfect in
    conscience,
  • 10 since they relate only to food and drink and
various washings, regulations for the body
imposed until a time of reformation.

Heb 91-5
13
Heb 91-5
14

  • Leviticus 1630-34  For on that day shall the
priest make an atonement for you, to cleanse you,
that ye may be clean from all your sins before
the LORD.  It shall be a sabbath of rest unto
you, and ye shall afflict your souls, by a
statute for ever.  And the priest, whom he shall
anoint, and whom he shall consecrate to minister
in the priest's office in his father's stead,
shall make the atonement, and shall put on the
linen clothes, even the holy garments
  • And he shall make an atonement for the holy
sanctuary, and he shall make an atonement for the
tabernacle of the congregation, and for the
altar, and he shall make an atonement for the
priests, and for all the people of the
congregation.  And this shall be an everlasting
statute unto you, to make an atonement for the
children of Israel for all their sins once a
year. And he did as the LORD commanded Moses.
  • The day of atonement was a solemn day of judgment
that took place in Israel once each year
(Leviticus 2327). Every sin had to be confessed
and forsaken. Those who refused were on that very
day cut off forever from the camp of Israel
(verse 29). One goat was slain and offered for
the sins of the people (verse 9). Its blood was
taken into the most holy place and sprinkled upon
and before the mercy seat (verse 14).

15
The Problem With The Old Law
  • Hebrews 101-4 For the law having a shadow of
good things to come, and not the very image of
the things, can never with those sacrifices which
they offered year by year continually make the
comers thereunto perfect. For then would they
not have ceased to be offered? because that the
worshippers once purged should have had no more
conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices
there is a remembrance again made of sins every
year.  For it is not possible that the blood of
bulls and of goats should take away sins.

16
1. The Way to Forgiveness- Christ
  • Hebrews 913-14 For if the blood of bulls and of
goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the
unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the
flesh  How much more shall the blood of Christ,
who through the eternal Spirit offered himself
without spot to God, purge your conscience from
dead works to serve the living God?
  • Matt 2628

17
He Hung There to Take Our Sins
18
1. The Way to Forgiveness- Christ
  • Hebrews 1012 But this man, after he had offered
one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the
    right hand of God
  • Hebrews 1014 For by one offering he hath
perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

19
Hebrews 916-18
2. Jesus Is Our Mediator
  • 15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the
new covenant, by means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions under the first
covenant, that those who are called may receive
the promise of the eternal inheritance.  16 For
where there is a testament, there must also of
necessity be the death of the testator.  17 For a
testament is in force after men are dead, since
it has no power at all while the testator lives.
18 Therefore not even the first covenant was
    dedicated without blood.

20
2. Jesus is the Mediator of The New Covenant By
Death
  • Mediator  This word is translated from the Greek
meaning one who intervenes between two .Jesus
Christ is our Mediator or intercessor.
  • Isaiah foretold the reason the Messiah needed to
be our intercessor.  There was no one else, who
could fulfill the role required, a righteous
person to intercede on humanities behalf with the
    Lord.
  • 16 He saw that there was no man, And wondered
that there was no intercessor Therefore His own
arm brought salvation for Him And His own
righteousness, it sustained Him. 17 For He put on
righteousness as a breastplate, And a helmet of
salvation on His head He put on the garments of
vengeance for clothing, And was clad with zeal as
    a cloak. Isaiah 5916-17

3. Only Christ Could Enter Heaven On Our Behalf
  • Hebrews 924-26

24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places
made with hands, which are copies of the true
things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in
the presence of God on our behalf. 25 Nor was it
to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest
enters the holy places every year with blood not
his own, 26 for then he would have had to suffer
repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But
as it is, he has appeared once for all at the
end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice
of himself.
23
4. To Save Us In The End
  • Hebrews 927-28
  • 27And just as it is appointed for man to die
once, and after that comes judgment, 28 so
Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins
of many, will appear a second time, not to deal
with sin but to save those who are eagerly
    waiting for him.

4. To Save Us In The End
  • Heb 1035-39
  • 35 Therefore do not throw away your confidence,
which has a great reward. 36 For you have need of
endurance, so that when you have done the will of
God you may receive what is promised.
  • 37 For,  "Yet a little while, and the coming one
will come and will not delay 38 but my
righteous one shall live by faith,  and if he
shrinks back,my soul has no pleasure in him." 39
But we are not of those who shrink back and are
destroyed, but of those who have faith and
    preserve their souls.

26
Conclusion
  • SIN IS UGLY TO GOD!
  • ATONEMENT MUST BE MADE- Jesus Died For Us!!!!!!!

27
Our Warning
  • How much worse punishment do you think will be
deserved by those who have spurned the Son of
God, profaned the blood of the covenant by which
they were sanctified, outraged the Spirit of
    grace?
