Safety Tips for a Safe Thanksgiving
According to the National Fire Protection
Association, Thanksgiving is the peak day for
house fires, with approximately three times the
number of fires of an average day in the year.

• Stay in the kitchen when you have food on the
  stove top and pay attention to everything that is
  cooking
• Keep stoves and ovens clean of grease and other
  flammables, such as pot holders, towels and paper
• When cooking, wear tight-fitting sleeves or roll
  your sleeves up in order to avoid catching any
  clothing on fire
• If deep frying a turkey, always use the fryer
  outdoors and at a safe distance from your home
  and make sure the turkey is completely thawed
  prior to frying

Diversity November is American Indian Heritage
Month
Since 1900, many have sought to recognize the
great influence American Indians have had on the
history, cultural development, and continuing
growth of the U.S. Various dates and weeks were
acknowledged until 1976, when Congress authorized
a week in October as Native American Awareness
Week. Finally, in 1990, the month of November was
chosen because it is traditionally a time when
many American Indians gather for fall harvests,
world-renewal ceremonies, and powwows.
