Title: Product System
1Product System
- Technology System Production System
- Technology in Product, Service, Production, or
Operations
2Introduction
- Invention of technology system is the first part
of innovation, and the second part of innovation,
commercialization, occurs by designing the new
technology into new products (or services or
operation). - The idea of a technology system is fundamental to
innovation theory so is the idea of a product
system. - But there is an important difference between
them A technology system is knowledge
and a product system is a utility.
3Introduction
- The knowledge of a technology is embodied in the
design of a useful product. - A product system including product architecture
and complexity, and the differing roles of
technology in product, services, production, and
operation systems. - Case Study Invention of Electronic Computer
4Case StudyInvention of the Computer
- The computer was one of those great inventions
that change human civilization. - ENIAC, Electronic Numerical Integrator and
Computer, the worlds first electronic
computer. - was designed and built to calculate artillery
firing tables for the U.S. Army's Ballistic
Research Laboratory. - The contract was signed on June 5, 1943 to the
University of Pennsylvania's Moore School of
Electrical Engineering and unveiled on February
14, 1946. - ENIAC was conceived and designed by John Mauchly
and Presper Eckert of the University of
Pennsylvania.

6Case StudyInvention of the Computer
- Altogether the circuit cabinets weighted 30 tons,
and drew 174 kilowatts of power. - The major problem was tube failure. Total 17,468
tubes are used in ENIAC they are likely to have
one failure in every 8 minutes on average. - Besides, ENIAC was not easily programmable need
physically connect the circuits. - 1951, the worlds first commercially successful
stored-program electronic computer, UNIVAC, the
Universal Automatic Computer, delivered to United
States Census Bureau designed by Dr. Presper
Eckert and Dr. John Mauchly.

9Technology System and Product System
- The difference between a technology system and a
product system are
In the details and fully connected steps of the
core technology in the product system.
In completing the product system with the
necessary secondary technologies.

Starting Ignition Subsystem
Fuel Subsystem
Body Subsystem
Engine / Transmission / Drive Train Subsystem
Steering Subsystem
Breaking Subsystem
Wheel / Suspension Subsystem
11Technology System and Product System
- A product system is a completed and connected
transformation technology system used by a
customer. - Technical progress in product can occur from
technological inventions to improve the product
design or to improve its production process.
12Technology in Product, Service, Production, or
Operations
Production System
is a completed and connected set of
transformational technology systems used in
producing a product.
Service System
is a completed and connected set of
transformational technology systems used in
communication and transacting operations within
and between producer / customer / supplier
networks.
Operations System
is a completed and connected set of
transformational technology systems used in
communication within and operating a business
enterprise.
