19The functional test of the LTOF
- A complete set of Cosmic Ray data have been taken
in Bologna before going to Terni
The LTOF assembled in Bologna All cables
used in the functional test are shown,
testing both the internal section and that
outside the TV chamber flange
20The Functional test of the Lower TOF The LTOF
detector transport to SERMS at Terni
The LTOF has been put in a wooden box wrapped in
an anti-dust cover and fixed to the container via
the suspending arms
The LTOF container was transported to Terni on a
Light Lorry standing on four air cushions
21Remarks on the TV test of Lower TOF
- The main concern was on PMT ageing
- Produce a significant test of extreme conditions
of temperatura without stressing the Flight
hardware - The thermal cycles had to be tuned on PMT
temperatures - The PMT temperature behaviour was measured
outside the EM copper shielding of the PMT case - The thermal model of the PMT case was validated
with a special TV test in Bologna
22Termo Vacuum Test in TerniCGS planned TVT test
profile for Lower TOF
23Study of the thermal PMT model
The study was done In the Bologna Termovacuum
Chamber One PMT complete With base, plastic
Envelope and External electrostatic Copper cage
was sitting In the center of the TVT
chamber One Dallas was sensing The PMT
temperature Another Dallas and a Pt100
controlled the Cu shield temperature
24Study of the thermal PMT modelBelow the
temperature cycles performed
25Study of the thermal PMT model
The first day various thermal cycles have been
performed with the PMT HV always ON The final
equilibrium temperature of the PMT (red line) is
slightly higher than the Cu external shield (blue
line Dallas, yellow line Pt100)
26Study of the thermal PMT model
The maximum temperature difference between the
external Cu electrostatic sheld and the PMT
inside the insulating box is less than 2C. This
is clearly seen switching OFF and ON the PMT HV.

33Concluding remarks
- The TV test ended succesfully in 10 june, and was
a joint effort of CGS, SERMS and Bologna (see
B.Bertucci) - Since then we are analysing in detail the
Functional test runs (see the F.Giovacchini
presentation), but no major problem has shown up - The vibration test is starting just now in Terni
and will be completed before mid September - The UpperTOF detector assembly will start
immediatly after the end of the LowerTOF
validation. - A complete report on the flight TOF performances
after the spatialisation tests will be presented
to the Collaboration.
