4A Cripple Cured(31-10)
- After the Day of Pentecost, many signs were done
through the Apostles - (243).
- The Apostles continued to live as observant Jews
attending set services - of worship at the Temple (e.g. morning and
evening sacrifice). - Identical with the Nicanor Gate leading into the
Court of Women - Read the notes below on the Beautiful Gate by
Edersheim. - The quality of the healing was not progressive,
but instant! - The former cripple man was well known to all who
entered the temple. - The miracle drew an amazed crowd (cp. Mk.210,
11). - These Apostles not only had the power to heal,
but to declare (Mt.2818f). - Such miracles were pointing to a new age (cp.
Lk.718-23 Mt.112-6)
5PETER ADDRESS IN SOLOMONS COLONNADE (311-16)
- The healed man provided visual confirmation
- of the truthfulness Peter and John-messengers
- of God and Apostles of Jesus Christ!
- Peter places an immediate disclaimer regarding
- any person credit due to them.
- The phrase, The God of Abraham, Isaac and
- Jacob calls ones mind back to Gods
appearance - at the burning bush (Ex.3).
- Peter immediately connects the healing of the
cripple - man with the glorification of Jesus.
- The cripple had been cured because Jesus had been
- glorified at Gods right hand and He had, thus,
- endowed His apostles with power to act in his
name - to perform mighty deeds.
- Peter refers to Jesus as the Servant Jesus
- (cp. Is.521 5312).
- Peter does not exonerate his Jerusalem audience
of their share of guilt in the death of Jesus
(Lk.2313-25). - Peter said they had repudiated the Holy and
Righteous One. - He blames them for killing the Author of life!
- Jesus Referred to
- Glorified by God
- Servant
- Holy One
- Just (Righteous)
- Author (Prince) of Life
- Resurrected
6A Call to Repentance (317 21)
- Peter points out that the multitudes and
- leaders had acted in ignorance.
- Jesus, Himself, on the cross said, They
- know not what they do (Lk.2334)
- Hands of wicked men had been the
- instrument of putting Jesus on the cross, but
- Jesus death was the eternal plan of God
- (Acts 222, 23).
- The fact that God planned the death of His
- Son is underscored by Peter saying that the
- prophets had foretold Jesus death.
- Peter proclaims divine amnesty and offered
- pardon to all who partook in the crucifixion of
- Jesus.
- The magnitude of the love and forgiveness
- of God is seen in His willingness to forgive
- those who authored the death of His Son.
7Acts 317-21 17 "And now, brethren, I know that
you acted in ignorance, just as your rulers did
also. 18 "But the things which God announced
beforehand by the mouth of all the prophets, that
His Christ should suffer, He has thus fulfilled.
19 "Repent therefore and return, that your sins
may be wiped away, in order that times of
refreshing may come from the presence of the
Lord 20 and that He may send Jesus, the Christ
appointed for you, 21 whom heaven must receive
until the period of restoration of all things
about which God spoke by the mouth of His holy
prophets from ancient time NAS
8Restoration of All Things
9Restoration of the Kingdom
GOD SPOKE OF THE ESTABLISHMENT OF HIS KINGDOM IN
LAST DAYS Is 22-5 (cp. Micah 41ff) 2 Now it
will come about that in the last days, The
mountain of the house of the LORD will be
established as the chief of the mountains, And
will be raised above the hills And all the
nations will stream to it. 3 And many peoples
will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the
mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of
Jacob That He may teach us concerning His ways,
And that we may walk in His paths. "For the law
will go forth from Zion, And the word of the LORD
from Jerusalem. 4 And He will judge between the
nations, And will render decisions for many
peoples And they will hammer their swords into
plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks.
Nation will not lift up sword against nation, And
never again will they learn war. 5 Come, house
of Jacob, and let us walk in the light of the
LORD. NAS Fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost
(Acts 2)
10Restoration of the King
God Foretells The Enthronement of the Messiah
(Seed of David) as King in the Kingdom Hos
34-5 4 For the sons of Israel will remain for
many days without king or prince, without
sacrifice or sacred pillar, and without ephod or
household idols. 5 Afterward the sons of Israel
will return and seek the LORD their God and David
their king and they will come trembling to the
LORD and to His goodness in the last days.
NAS Fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2)
11Completion of Word
God Would Finish Divine Revelation in the Last
Days Through His Son Heb 11-2 God, after He
spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in
many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last
days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He
appointed heir of all things, through whom also
He made the world. NAS The Process of the
Completion of the Final Revelation of God Began
on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2)
12Wrapping Up of Redemptive History
James Spoke of His Readers Living in the Last
Days James 51-3 Come now, you rich, weep and
howl for your miseries which are coming upon you.
2 Your riches have rotted and your garments have
become moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and your silver
have rusted and their rust will be a witness
against you and will consume your flesh like
fire. It is in the last days that you have stored
up your treasure! NAS Note By the time James
penned this book in the early 60s A.D., all the
things involved in the completion of redemptive
history were nearing and end.
13The Finishing of Redemptive History
1 Peter 47 The end of all things is at hand
therefore, be of sound judgment and sober spirit
for the purpose of prayer.
What would be involved in the consummation of
redemptive history? (Daniel 924 27) Seventy
weeks have been decreed for your people and your
holy city, to finish the transgression, to make
an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity,
to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal
up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most
holy place. NAS
14Restoration of the Temple
- Ark Removed (Jer.316)
- Temple to be Torn Down (Mt.241-36)
- New Temple to be Built (2 Pet.24ff Eph.218f
Amos 911f) - New Temple Identified (1 Cor.316f 618-20)
15Restoration to their Land
- Jews carried into various captivities.
- Prophets spoke of returning to their land and
living securely (Amos 911ff cp. Acts 1513-21)
16Restoration of Perfect World
- Man fell in the garden of Eden (Gen.3)
- The prophets pictured a world cursed by sin being
restored to its original splendor (Isa.116-10
cp. Rom.157-13)
17Until the heavens must receive until the time of
the restoration of all things
What remains now that God has brought a
restoration of all things in Christ?
Acts 1731 inasmuch as he hath appointed a day
in which he will judge the world in righteousness
by the man whom he hath ordained whereof he hath
given assurance unto all men, in that he hath
raised him from the dead.
